Hi

Knew it was oil but had no idea where it was comming from or what the situation was.Not the news i wanted or expected as the car is going so well at the mo.A work mate knows a guy in the local LR garage so will be contacting him on Monday, not got a vast amount of money spare esp this time of year but will have to get her sorted.

Hi

I assume yours is a K series petrol engine, mine is a TD4 auto on 2002 plate. The car is driving great and if it was not for my checks yesterday morning there would be no differnce.

H'mm this is unusual on a TD4 - had it been a petrol model there'd be no suprise in seeing HGF symptons. I'm slightly worried now - could it be that the dreaded HGF is not limited to petrol models?
What's the mileage on this one?

i think is the black plague o no ,,,its contagious,,,,sorry td4ers,,,i hope not the petrol moter was a mistake for me ,,but sh!t darn

Ta for the reply. The car has 67,000 miles and the engine has been one of it's strongest features. The car is now off the road until the prob is fixed but Lynn had to use it earlier to collect the boy's and she drove fine (as good as it always). There was plenty of oil and water and she kept one eye on the temp just in case.I purchased a Citroen C5 DERV estate from my boss today and instantly fell in love with the thing.Going to be our second car when the Landy is fixed, sadly that will not be until after Xmas.

We had this problem on one of our mercedes 814 trucks at work. The truck carried on going for another 100,000km with no other symptoms except for the black sludge. The headgasket was eventually done as a precautionary measure.

Can't look at our Td4 just now to check but looking at the Rave for Td4 engine there seems to be a coolant hose to the oil cooler. If i'm right then problem could be a faulty oil cooler or gasket.

Chaser...

Just as I was reading this thread, I wondered if there was some sort of oil cooler with coolant supply either engine, transmission or power steering but didn't have my manual to hand, but after reading Chasers reply I'd say it's the most likely. Could be HGF, but I'd explore evrything else first.
