It was a good deal , a very good deal, seen ones worse than that go for a lot more.

Cheers

I wanted to buy a defender, but when this came up, I knew I had to have it. Much as I’ve always wanted a defender, to get all that car for half the money....and a lot less aggro, it was a no brainier.

Thanks mate. What are your thoughts on the 15p td5 engine? It all looks a bit scary to me after 6 years with a 300tdi.

I love the td5 engine my D2 will happily sit at 85mph all day long & doesn't miss a beat cant do that in a 300tdi !!
I also have a 90 with the 300 & a D1 project which isn't quite finished but my misses love's the D2 for the comfort, I got
it for free & use it for work & a general run about for my bikes & the dogs hence why I'm looking for another one ;)

Top tips for maintenance?
The Td5 is a pretty good lump, provided you look after it. Check your fluid levels regularly and as I said earlier, change the oil every 6000 miles or so.
Keep an eye on your coolant too. The temperature gauge on the D2 doesn't indicate any particular temperature, just the presence of some heat. By the time it shows overheating, the damage has been done.
The is a known problem with the injector harness leaking oil down the wires to the ECU. The first symptoms will be rough running and peculiar behaviour. When that happens check the red plug on the ECU and if there are traces of oil, change the harness.
Other than that, enjoy your D2.

The previous owner just sold me an unused nanocom, a transmission service kit, dayco auxiliary belt and an inlet manifold gasket....for £300!
He had a sort out and found them in his garage, so gave me a ring as he has no use for them any more. Result!
