Hi

In the last day my 2001 2.5 TD5 discovery series 2 has developed a very annoying audible chiming from the dash board which is continious. No warning lights appear.

The vehicle had the air suspension replaced with coils a few months back. Any ideas? Thank you

The noise is the same as when you depress the hill descent button and the chiming only stops when the vehicle is static or doing less than 20 mph.

Sounds to me like you need to get the fault codes read.

Also when you ditched the air suspension did you tell the SLABS ECU that the car is now on coils?

Thanks thebiglad, will get hubby out there with his code reader however the air suspension was replaced quite a few months ago by previous owner so have no idea if they told the SLABS ECU lol. This noise has only just started. Strange......no previous problems and it drives ok! However the chiming does stop briefly if I turn a corner sharply!?

There are just two continuous audible warnings(they stop only if an input is received):
1. Key in/lights on warning
2. Transfer box in neutral warning > for autobox only...if yours is auto...there is a neutral warning switch on the inner top of the transfer box(to not mistake for the oil temp. switch)...it could do tricks.

Anyway thebiglad is right(as always;)).....be aware, u dont need a generic code reader u need a dedicated diagnostic/programming equipment.

the gearbox is manual. and would a problem suddenly develop re SLABS ECU information after all this time? Bearing in mind that we have experienced severe cold weather recently and it has only warmed up in the last couple of days which is when the noise started.

First of all u must make sure what generates this warning. The SL/ABS ECU doesnt have continuous warning settings...continuous audible warnings(without warning lamps or existing severe faults) are generated by the BCU.......of course with a Land Rover everything is possible:rolleyes:

If u want to do some research by your own i can tell u how to identify the source of it(SLABS ECU or BCU)....but for that u have to work a bit to get acces to them(behind the glove box / LH side of fascia)....do u want to do that?

Untill then see pin disposals of SLABS ECU here: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/slabs-pin-data-129211.html see that C0655 on pin7 has the audible warning output for SLABS and and other inputs/outputs related to SLS, only pin 10 is engine speed input for ABS.

Firs of all take out F11(30A) from engine bay fusebox and go for a ride see if the warning is still on.....attention u will not have functional ABS during this experiment.

1. if the warning is still there it means it's from the BCU (not from theSLABS ECU).......then u will need a scanner
2. if the warning dissapears(i have a feeling that'll not happen) ....i will tell what u can do further on the SLABS ECU's connector (pic below)

Ok then, just tell me, are the SLS, ORM(the one with one arrow upward) and the HDC warning lamps working on self check?

Sounds to me like it thinks it is in extended ride height, and is trying to drop out of it above the 'trigger' speed of 18 mph.

Will pop over later on with halwkeye and read the codes, and see if it knows it is on springs?

All the above warnings lights work on self check. What I did fail to mention originally is that when the air suspension was replaced over 5 months ago the sls warning lamp remains ON. I was informed by the previous owner that the reason for this is that it needed switching off / removing by main dealer with a special piece of equuipment. Currently the lamp is covered up on the dash board with a piece of black masking tape!

then i reckon switching it to springs with hawkeye should cure it....

trouble is i've never done that before. anyone want to tell me how to do it?!

It's a good point that's why we must see if the ORM lamp is functional, coz it must flash then...though in this case the audible warning is not continuous....just the flashing
