Hi All...much help needed for this one....my TD5 series2, ES AT has gone mad...it gives a constant unlock signal all the time...I Fob lock it and walk away...only to hear the doorlocks jump up and unlock themselves, also red dash light going mad when Fob used...twice my headlights came on (and stayed ) on while I was Fobbing it open/closed to try clear the problem...also a chirp/beep intermittent every 5 inutes or so from the rear of the landy...so far lost 2 nights sleep and starting to get despondent as landrover agent where I stay quoted like 13k to fix it(well look at it)..yep...3day book-in at 850 per hour to "have a look see". All they said was their computer reads a constant unlock signal coming from somewhere. Interesting..when I fob "lock"...I get the same sound chirp as when you set your alarm but a door isnt properly closed..i checked it all out...no joy..also my fob battery is ok as well..checked it...Now what....please rack your brains...need all the assistance I can get.
thanks

Hi Allan, The easy way to diagnose an alarm misbehaviour is to scan it. When BCU and IDM are involved then the guessing type of diagnostic is very much bonded to luck.

U can try though some things based on pure logic:

1.Check the central door locking switch(the one near the clock)...it could give a permanent "open circuit" input to the BCU. So go inside the car close the doords and lock/unlock the doors several times with it ....see what happens.....if it's not working properly remove it and see the connections behind it......may be a bad contact or the switch itself to be blocked on open position

2. disconnect the battery for about 15 min then reconnect it and try again the fob(with the alarm disarmed as to not trigger it)

3. try to lock the doors with the key without using the fob...see what happens......Be aware if u lock the door with the key unlock it just with the key cos if the alarm is configured on "only disarm with key if locked with key" mode and u do different u might superlock the car and u can remobollise it just using the EKA

The door latch switches could make tricks too........as i said the guessing thing on alarm issues is a bit unefficient:mad: .....also doing different kind of experiments(taking into acount that the alarm is already misbehaving) u could make things worst.......though variant 1 and 2 are "alarm friendly"...3 is a bit risky.

Try to find a helpfull chap with nanocom or hawkeye to scan it.

untill then the best thing u can do is to read the alarm description and operation mode from the workshop manual;)

First thing I would be doing is buying a Hawkeye. The reason why I say this is, one facillity within it is to circuit test just about every feature on the car including the central locking.

They cost £275 which according to the above is about 20mins LR time and you'll have a tool which is the portable version of their own Testbook T4.

Good luck

Dave
