The airbox on my 51 plate thor has been held together with gaffer tape and cable ties for a while now after LPG problems blew it to feck, (now sorted). Ive seen a couple of posts about the K&N cone filters not being a good idea on the thor engine, any thoughts on this or has anyone done this and found it ok. Dont really want to fork out for a replacement airbox just to blow it up again at some point in the future.

Why pi**s about with fancy filters when the original spec is fine.
I would have thought that sorting out why you are blowing filter boxes up is more important than looking for different filters that are explosion proof.
Yet another reason why I am anti LPG on a car thats designed to run on petrol with the fancy electronic engine management system to suit. I suppose there will always be people who think they can reinvent the wheel though !!!

I used twin K+N type filters on my 3.5 V8 on carbs and LPG with no problems. It never backfired on LPG so didn't have a problem there either.

Maybe I was just lucky:)

nothing wrong with lpg on a thor or any other fancy ecu controlled motor..just get a decent setup and dont get a monkey to fit it..

re filter..standard is best for normal useage...

oh..no decent lpg setup backfires..only old single point pooh ones are liable to do that.

My old single point (one in each inlet ) didn't backfire. If it's set up right it'll be ok.:)

AS I thought, my post has gone down the old pro-anti lpg path. I did mention that the lpg problem is now fixed, when the gas was running out the mxture would lean out and backfire, simply changed the changeover point with the software and its ok. just need to fill up again a little sooner. What i actually asked was are the cone filters ok with the thor engine? Anyone got a straight answer?

Straight answer re. cone filters.

With any car cone filters are only going to be any better if you make a cold air box to ensure the filter is only sucking in cool fresh air from outside the engine bay.

Otherwise you're just sucking in loads of hot air from around the engine and so losing power over the standard set-up...exposed cone filters sitting next to the exhaust manifolds are for that "MacDonalds Drive-Thru" look only!

Cheers,

Malcolm
