Comprehensive third party cover

Hi all,
I'm comprehensively insured and covered. Third party to drive other cars not belonging to me.
As I understand, if we buy another disco and it's it my wife's name will I be insured to drive it home from garage???
Need to check as car is long way away and don't want risk.

when I have looked at this, I found the vehicle had to belong to someone else and also be insured by them as well.

I was covered 3rd party to drive it on my insurance, BUT it had to be insured by someone else, BUT you need to check what YOUR insurance covers obviously.

many insurers are stopping this cover and those that do stipulate "for emergency only".
check with your insurer first. it probably wont cost much to cover another vehicle temporarily.

Exactly this.

The 'Driving Other Cars' benefit is to allow the driver to drive someone else's car on a third party only basis. Ie. You need to take a family member to an appointment in their car, they have their own insurance policy & own that car themselves - You could then drive it on a third party only basis.

In your situation, you will be the new owner of the vehicle, and it's unlikely to be insured. Your best bet is to contact your current insurer to arrange a temporary second vehicle policy.

Ps. We are now offering an additional benefit whereas if you take a policy out that includes driving other cars third party only, we can increase the cover to drive other cars comprehensively up to £20,000 value. - May be of use to some of you who want to have a play in each others landys! Give me a shout if need be!
