 Hi All. Newbie here looking to see if anyone can help me solve this puzzle.

I have a 1991 discovery 3.9i v8 ive been having problems with the heating sometimes it works sometimes it dont.
When it does work it only works on speed 3. Ive replaced all switches checked fuses and relays and come to conclusion the blower motor is at fault.
So i ordered another blower motor and started to strip out the old one when the new one arrived.
My puzzle is the one they have sent is not the one that was in the disco.
The breakers assure me they have sent the one that should be in my motor but as you can see by the pics...Pic 1...The Blower Motor out my Disco....Pic 2 ...The one they sent me....Pic 3....Both of em.
Now from web searches my mrs has done (Hours of she is not impressed) we can only find my blower motor belonging to a range rover classic or a 200tdi.
Is this correct?? Should this type be in my car or has it been changed by a previous owner. Last owner was my brother and he didnt change it.
Can anyone help my car is in bits im having to use the mrs car and im missing the drive of my disco.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Nigel

yeah i agree, pic 1 looks like a 200tdi blower.

strange, cos it didnt think a 200tdi heater box would fit into a 300 shape.

my 200 v8 heater also is very dodgy, i already changed it once 2 years ago and its playing up again. cant be bothered changing it for another one - did you have to take the dash out to get the heater box out to get the fan out?

if i could change the fan with the dash in place it would be ok, but last time i had to remove the whole lot.

really bad job :(

Im glad someone agree's ive sent my mrs bonkers with all this.

Was whole dash out mate n job n half it is.

Now to find a 200tdi one not as readily available as i thought.

Cheers mate

Are you sure it wasnt the fan resistor under the decker panel? only had speed 3 on some settings and nothing on others, I replaced mine with the upgraded one rather than another standard one and it works a treat now, well the blower does anyway lol.

This is a class fault with these cars and the resistor

Hi There.

Yes mate checked that with one out of another disco that i know works and still did same thing.
Bench test on the blower motor confirms that it works when it feels like it even had a few sparks out of it.

Cheers for advice Thou

MIne hasnt worked for a few months due to muddy water in heater box (blummin offroading)

the last time it worked was a few weeks ago when it got soaked due to wading again, but it packed up again as sson as it dried out. i dont wade very often cos it tends to break alternators/starters - but frustratingly it temporarily fixed my heater which is a much more difficult repair.

im not looking forward to winter, need to get something sorted. ideally i would like a heated screen out of a 300 disco or classic...

cheers :D

Funny you should mention it mate I just browsed eBay today for an in car heater!

The other option is to find out where to hit the heater box to make it work.

Last year when it was dodgy before I offroaded the car I used to be able to punch the dash to get it to work, but now that's not direct enough :D

Heated screen would be the perfect option, and maybe a fan heater for cab temps - but the transmission tunnel gets so hot it would quickly warm up inside I reckon!! :D

There two types of heaters fitted to the D1s pre-air blending and air blending, you have the first as fitted to my old RRC and 200 discos the motor/fan is accessed from the side of the heater box and the later 300 series air-blending motor/fan is accessed from below the air box.
So send it back, seems your supplier doesn't know his discos.

The key point for me, discool if you please, is do you think I'll be able to remove the fan from my 200 with the main dashboard in place?

I can handle an amount of stripping down but really dont wana start taking the dash out again!

Cheers, sam

Hi Mr Noisy, based on info I have seen over the forum years I understand you can by removing the glovebox and all the the other bits and bobs in that area, you are not removing the matrix or the heater air box are you but just just unbolting the motor and sliding it and the attached fan out of the box.
The RRC heater motor came out towards the glove box. But that was a long time ago.

The manual may show how to do it but then it may not as it for the later model but sometimes they do include earler stuff :) http://www.landy.pl/LandRoverDiscoveryWorkshop1995-1996.pdf

It's a good question to put in the general disco forum " Is there easy way to remove the motor and fan from a 200 series disco heater".

Alright thanks very much matey.

I will post it up when I am gonna have chance to sort it.

Ill take a look under the dash to refresh my memory, what I rememeber from last time is that the heater box has to be opened up to reveal the fan, but I may be mistaken/can't remember!

Thanks again mate :)
