Combi boiler and programmers advice.

Sis has a combi boiler with a wireless programmer which she hates, boiler is, I suspect, too far away, too many solid walls etc for it to work reliable.
She's had two now and the same issues. I've suggested a wired programmer(with built in room stat if that's a thing?) Because I'm in the middle of reboarding the bathroom and getting cable(s) from the boiler to where she wants a programmer would be easy.
Pita otherwise..
Anybody know of a good programmer/ room stat combo?
And how many cables would I need, or rather how many cores?.

I have a remote controller and it's too complicated to set so I just switch on in the mornings and off at night.
I adjust the temp as the day goes on and have the controller in my living room.
Maybe she could put controller somewhere that it works and adjust temp and radiators to suit each room

That's what she does now but the boiler is outside in what was a coal house I think. Its dark dingy and involves going down steps outside, then more steps then using a torch to see the rest of the way.
The boiler was in the loft but she had it moved to where it is now a few yrs ago and wireless just don't cut it out there. Old house thick walls and distance is the problem.
Shes sick of getting up and coming home to a freezing house.

Most combi boilers only require a make or break switch to control the heating, so as marjon pointed out the wireless receiver can be elsewhere it just has to have a 240v supply for the receiver to work, but if she wants different then fit a programmable stat this one should do it and is battery powered so only a twin core .5 wire needed and not break the bank

It's harder to do that, I understand what you are saying and it's difficult to describe the layout of her house but it will be easier to fit a proper programmer plus the wireless doo dah was binned weeks ago.:rolleyes::D

My mates got one of them or similar, 9v battery for the display but his boiler was new and I wasn't sure if my sis boiler was suitable, it's getting on a bit but the guy who services it says to keep it going as the build quality is far superior to modern stuff. Baxi something, goldstar?

If you can let me know the exact boiler i can work it out, i have done a few :rolleyes:

Potterton gold 24he. Not baxi:rolleyes:.
Sis told me that the gas guy said they are a baxi inside? Don't know how true that is.

Potterton baxi are same company
in the boiler the wireless stat will be wired into bk1 and bk2 on the board which is the room stat connections, just take a two core from them and wire that in to the c and on terminals in the drayton digistat and you should be good to go but do remember that it will be 240v on those connections.

1mm 2 core black/red drum of, found in me cellar, digistat ordered from toolstation, last one. Screwfix got no stock. £49 summut. :)

@brianp38dse just had a call from toolstation and they are refunding the purchase as they don't have any in stock ,even though their website said 1 in stock, and they can't get anymore, discontinued model apparently.
I'm guessing these programmers are all much of a muchness? So any with a battery display and not wireless should do??
 
Yes you should be ok with any of the others like that
you could use any wired stat you would just need more wires as some need a neutral connection

i have be having trouble getting allsorts of bits and bobs, pumps, valves and anything with with an electronic board in it, things are coming in and out of stock with no rhyme or reason sadly and now the postage strike is not helping:(
the t4 should work well.
 
As above ref the make break contacts on the heating side , personally used to fit alot of the honey well CM927 thermostats, remote box by the boiler and wireless programmable thermostat can be placed anywhere in the house

Must confess haven’t seen the T4 seeing it’s one if the new models

If you keep struggling have a look at Sangamo programmers, both wired and wireless, fitted both and even the wireless ones work in farm houses, seem strong signals. Also very easy to use, in normally fit them for older people who often struggle with other stats and programmers, they also seem to have the best garantee of 5 years.
