Bugger - just when things were going so well.

This morning and out of the blue, the Disco (2.8 TGV) took 15+ turns to start. There was not a glimmer of firing until I linked my two batteries together and then it fired - no noticeable clouds of smoke, just fired up. Normally takes 1 turn and a split second.

After two miles, I called into get diesel and it failed to restart - yes I did fill it up with diesel :p. Eventually through repeated turning over, the batteries flattened and the RAC were called. The patrol man hand primed the pump, undid each injector in turn and it fired up. He is saying that the pressure at the pump is disappearing once the engine is swiched off.

The engine and all ancilliaries including the fuel pump were brand new in February. Since the engine fitting, an Allisport full width intercooler has been fitted (10 days ago) but everything has worked absolutely fine since then.

I'd love to hear your suggestions unless those suggestions involve swapping the car for a Mars Bar, etc.:bounce:

Sounds to me like the intercooler has nothing to do with it.
What about your lift pump? Is that knackered? How about the diesel injector pump (nasty expensive thing that it is) is that in good order?

check the injector leak off pipes also to make sure that they are not split, or if one or more has come off the injector. Would have thought the rac guy would have checked them, when cracking off the steel injector feed pipe, but you never know

Sorry, but what's a 2.8 TGV?

Which Disco?

A 300 Tdi Disco with a 2.8 TGV Engine fitted.

It's where you upgrade the 300TDI lump to 2.8 with a kit from (I think) Md Engineering).

Good answer. Mine isn't the one where you bolt on a few "bigger bits", mines the pukka new engine with all ancilliaries. :D

Gives plenty more uuummpphhh if I'm not mistaken?

With the full width intercooler it has more oomph than my previous V8s! Doesn't sound as nice though.

Sounds to me like the intercooler has nothing to do with it.

I'm also thinking the intercooler has nothing to do with it but as it was so recent I thought it needed to be mentioned.

I don't touch engines as a rule (hence this post) so I've got to ask where the lift pump is?

The injector pump is brand new and was fitted with the engine - done maybe 5k.

Will check them too. The poor old RAC guy was quite short and couldn't reach the back two injectors so I had to do it.

Thanks for the help so far guys, like I said, engines aren't my bag.
