The reason @neilly asked about the vehicle and the engine, and I'll ask about the year of manufacture is that there was some confusion regarding code readers, particularly for the diesel Discovery 2 until mid-2004 when the Disco 3 was released on the unsuspecting public. Until then, only the petrol versions were compatible with OBDII protocols. I'm unsure whether that situation applied to other Land Rover vehicles including Range Rover.
When you're investigating the market possibilities, do bear in mind that the sellers will never mention the differences between petrol and diesel, consequently many people do get caught out when they buy such items as the iCarSoft device.

mines 2006. all obd2 software seems to read it. ive been toying with a delphi software. they seem good for live data and resonably priced. seems a code just isnt enough to diagnose issues these days. noticed some jaguar/landrover software on ebay to. bonus of the delphi is i can read most cars with it

May i just throw another diagnostic reader in the mix please , if u want a really good diagnostic reader get one made by gap called an iid, fantastic bit of kit and will allow u to do virtually the same as the dealers testbook T4
the bluetooth version will allow u to use ur iphone or ipad
alas they are around £420 but pays for itself very quickly , have enclosed a link, if u scroll down, put ur make and year in it will show u what it can do and at least gives u a comparison of other readers u may be interested in

It was more that a pound !
I've got the lynx.
Its pretty amazing, you can read codes, clear them, live test actuators and electric circuits, code key fobs and injectors.
The only downside is you need a laptop to use it with, but you get a nice big, easy to read screen because of it!
You can buy it for your model and then purchase other models if/when you want to!
