Clutch Slave Cylinder too tight to get in!!!!!!

Hi all!

So, today I decided to replace my clutch slave cylinder, a job that id been putting off for a long time even though it had been leaking.

It was a real squeeze to get the old one out, ended up getting it out by gently pressing down on the clutch pedal and letting it do the work.

The problem I've got now is that I can't get the new one in!
The rubber seal that sits around the bit that goes in makes it too hard to get in.


I'm sure people have had this problem in the past and was wondering if anyone had a novel ideas in getting the new one in.

My only idea is going out and buying a ratchet strap and using that to get enough force to put it in.

And before anybody asks, I really have tried just pushing and wiggling, there's only so much force I can give whilst I lay on the ground under my car.

If that pic is of the slave you have they are a pain,because there is no recess for the dust cap and if you do force it in the metal work will slice it off. Get a Delphi or Lockheed one.

There is a slight recess for the dust cap. Unfortunately, I can't justify buying another one, just wondering if you had any ways of getting this one in.

I've never had a problem with mine. Have read others having an issue though. I was always taught that if you were pushing something in to a hole and it was a tight fit, then use lube. You could try trimming the dust cap with a new stanley blade.

You do not say which gbox you have, but I changed mine the other year and it went in very easily.

Have you tried cleaning the hole with some scotchbrite?

I was trying to fit one like yours a month or two ago to a mates 90, lube and stanley knife did no good,get another or fit with out cap but fill the end with vaseline

Never had to try it myself, twas just a suggestion

The rubber boot causes the problem, trim the ridge on the inside with a sharp knife, this sorted it when I had the same problem.

Can't beat a good smear of Vaseline to lubricate the end of yer rubber to help it slip in.

I used an angle grinder to take off part of the bellhousing.
