Clutch slave cylinder problems

Hi all,

My slave cylinder exploded the other night, while I'm waiting for the replacment to come in the post Ive started to remove the old unit. my main concern before i put the new unit on is whether the clutch lever has seized, should i be able to move it by hand, or is it normal to be pretty firm?

too firm for hand.

Guessing its a 1.8 petrol ..was the clutch pedal stiff to operate before it went pop? check the the metal bracket for cracks/damage if so then you need to replace that too.
spray the arm with lots of lube - then put yer new bits all back together, work the pedal and see if the pedal gets easier to use..mine took ages to get right.
keep the arm lubed up regularly

the clutch pedal seemed normal, yes the bracket is bent and cracked, I ordered a new one too.

usually the case that the arm stiffens up over the years putting extra load onto the bracket, the bracket breaks and the cylinder goes pop...so I would lube it up anyway to be sure

I am working through the same problem right now. Lever should move a bit (mine is about 10mm) by hand till you hit the clutch spring.

Pull the bracket and inspect, mine was all cracked and bent. I couldn't get the new parts to align with the lever as they were no longer true and straight.

I lost some fluid when installing the new cyl as I tried to go too fast with the install.

Out of interest is there any adjustment on the freelander clutch, when selecting reverse I near halve to put the pedal through the floor so it doesn't grind.

don't think there is any adjustment, most probably you have to much play on your rods

No adjustment but if you get a lot of travel in the peddle it's possible the bracket is bent.

Looked at the bracket but seems ok, might tweek it a bit towords the lever to see if that helps.

I wouldn't tweek the bracket. It is a goofy design and the metal is thin. Why not just shim between the ram and lever a hair? On seccond thought I woundn't do that either.

Just fitting the new master, the shaft that fits to the pedal is not attached to the master cylinder, is this to aid fitting or have I got a dodgy unit here?
