Disco 2 Clutch problem

Fitted a gearbox today used, old one crunched, fitted new clutch pressure plate etc now have crap peddle cannot select gear removed slave cylinder and pushrod moves fine can feel thrust bearing moving feels ok i suspect i damaged clutch master cylinder when re-fitting slave pushing back piston should have opened nipple any ideas

does it splash in the res when pedals pumped , try bleeding the system

No i cant get any air out at all bled it just fluid res cap off no splashing
