Hi all,

Yesterday the clutch pedal was perfect and put the Landy to sleep. Got her going this morning and now I have minimal travel on the clutch pedal. A good bite on the clutch with no slipping, just lost the travel in the pedal! Any ideas peeps? Have tried searching to no avail!!! The wonders of Land Rover eh??!!

Have you checked the fluid level in the resevoir?

Cheers Ratty and Corby. Topped fluid up and looks like I'm going to have to fork out on a new clutch in the next couple of weeks!! Doh!!

Lanny the bite is almost non existent now the fluid is topped up and I can feel the start of a slip. Just amazed it went overnight. The last one was a long and drawn out process!! I wish it was the pedal box but it's the big jobby. Not bad considering the Landy is on 192000! Lol

Check the slave cylinder isn't leaking before you start panicking. If the slave leaks it can get onto the clutch plate and cause slippage.

If you haven't already then take the wading plug out of the bell housing. Mate of mine left his in all the time and eventually the whole clutch got soaked in a mix of engine oil & brake fluid.

Cheers Chez I'll have a look later! Cheers for that. The clutch is holding on at the moment and I'm between jobs, so unfortunately the Landy isn't having the money it should have spent on it!!!!!!!

Hey tom odds are that the seals have perished on the master cylinder top it up and pump like crazy and check the top of the pedal itself you may see the fluid running down very slightly its hardly noticeavle. alternatively remove the 6 screws drom the cylinder box and check it internally. hope this helps seems to be a common fault on older defenders

Ok thanks Outlaw. Will look tomorrow! A master cylinder is a lot cheaper than a clutch! Just a pain to replace!! Lol

Haha. Beer may slow things down!! I'll have a check tomorrow and if it's the MC I'll order a new one!! Then it's just to sort the near side swivel seal replacement, and then injector overhaul! And by the time I've done those jobs, more problems will have turned up!!! I love LR's!! They keep you on your toes!!!
