Clutch pedal spring assist

I fitted one and it is so different it makes you wonder if the thing is still connected

Why does the "standard" set up require so much force ? Genuine question!

@meego - I fitted a servo to SWMBO's clutch due health issues - effort now down to 7Kg - which she can manage with one finger ( though that doesn't half make her driving a bit poor :D) - I put a thread up on here about the job. Two years (?) later - it's all still working fine :)

When you do the mod you take off the original return springs and they look like something off the Bismark, the new ones use a total different principal where they go over center and actually seem to assist you after the first few inches.
Certainly makes a difference.

Good thread and solution, thanks. I only notice the clutch being heavy when I'm in traffic to be honest and don't find it too bad. Father in law got a replacement knee of a previously renewed knee and has had a lot of bother with it, so doing it for him so he can tow with the 90.

Not noticed this before, but I do have problems with my knees. Kit ordered!!

I see that this kit was factory fitted to later models, so it begs the question of why wasn't it always fitted? Were they trying to scare weaklings away from owning a Defender? :)

i keep thinking of servo assisting the clutch, i have terrible knees and feet and struggle at times (as in cant drive the thing!). might do a servo to delay doing an auto conversion.....

I did SWMBO's as a half way house, ;) and drive an auto for medical reasons. On the rare occasions that I drive her manual, I find it Ok - I couldn't deal with stop start traffic in it, but it is a definite improvement. I will convert hers to auto before too long :) ( and I have the box here ready ), as, unfortunately, none of us are getting any younger

yeah i drive an auto for medical reasons, i can drive the manual but not always when i actually want to, depends on what kind of day/week i am having......
I have all the bits for the auto conversion just not done it (got a mate who can do it) yet.
TBH i struggle with the accelerator more than the clutch as my right leg is worse, i have modified the floor to have a raised area so i can rest my foot and hold the pedal in place.
I have 2 fused ankles :/ so its a bit of a struggle at times.....

That's about the same as me then :) .......:(

as my right leg is worse

Ah, Ok. Sorry to hear that. There's a device which was featured on Car SOS, which enables an auto to be driven by folk with one leg - AND, it doesn't matter which leg either, cos it swaps the brake for the accelerator and vice versa.... IIRC, they fitted it to a triumph stag - a simple mechanical linkage too, so no electronics to go t*ts up
