clunking/ metal banging in reverse only

hi,
our freelander has encounted a annoying clanking/ metal banging problem when in reverse and turning at the same time. when its making this noise the engine jumps up and down. it doesnt happen whilst going in a forward motion. can anyone help

check ya VCU, diff bushes and chassis/rear subframe for cracks.

front diff bush as said above sounds suspect. grab hold of rear diff where the prop joins it and try to lift it..if it moves a fair bit the bush needs replacing..if it's worn the clanking will be the diff nose hitting the underside of your car..causing the prop to lock up and engine to lurch
