Think i may have fried my ignition coil and or starter solenoid!! i arced my battery to the body of my series 3 petrol lanny creating an almighty spark, now i cant get the thing to start. All i get now is clicking coming from the area of the ignition coil but i cant be sure what it is, any ideas ?

Bit more info would come in handy.
Does the engine turn over on the starter?
Is it possible that the click is coming from the starter solenoid rather than the coil?
With the live lead having 'fallen off' have you checked the battery earth?
Is the battery in good condition and charged?

Does sound a bit like there's a circuit to operate the starter solenoid but not the starter motor - the clicking sound isn't easy to locate. Check all the high current lives and earths 'cos you might have burnt one out. Don't forget the earth between the chassis and gearbox.

Great info will take a look now, not able to start the engine doesn't even try to turn over. Battery is fine to very old and getting power to run the wipers at normal speed so don't think it's the battery.

Try hitting starter with a mallet might just be a bit sticky. Another easy test is to put your head lights on and try starting to see if they dim or not.

Changed the ignition coil today but still getting the clicking noise starter solenoid arriving tomorrow so will try that next, all cables and connections sound power getting to everywhere else so fingers crossed its the solenoid. Tried to loosen the fixings before but need 5' arms lol will need to climb inside engine bay to reach.

It looks like it was a faulty earth all along, tightened all the leads and it seams to be holding charge now and the charge light goes out once engine is running, should have looked at that before replacing the coil and solenoid!!! that will teach me. thanks for the advice and stuff lads.
