Hello all

The blower on my '93 Classic completely stopped working recently and an electrical burning smell took the place of the hot air. Can any of you good folk draw an instant diagnosis from this? :)

Thanks

Dave

Thanks chap. Was hoping something simpler. I now have to pull the whole car apart right? Is there any aftermarket solution? Something to pull the air up from the end of the heater grilles, say?

a straw????

it needs stripping m8 to find out whats wrong, have you checked the fuses or relays to find out if anything blown?

Hmm, car vacuum, stickyback plastic, just might work.

Thanks gegs, but it's def not a fuse. Will investigate further (inevitably...) :)

It was so tempting to just post "It's fooked"

but seriously get in there as soon as possible. If it's wiring you need to find out how far it's gone and if the wiring is part of a loom there could be damage to other wiring. If a fuse hasn't blown then whatever burned up could still be live and could start burning again.

Sorry to sound like a right doom merchant but you don't want your next post to be a video of Rangie burns up.

Thanks dogsbody. It clearly is fooked, but I wasn't sure how much ;) Thanks for the tips. If we get another cold snap, and need to switch it on, I'll invetsigate soon - if all stays above zero I'll be leaving this to a summer task/saga.

Sorry mate you're missing my point.

How can you know that it's JUST the heater that's failed.
How can you know that it's JUST the heater wiring AND ONLY the heater wiring that's damaged.
Unless and until you KNOW what's burnt out you are taking a chance.
The fact that you say that it HASN'T blown a fuse is the scariest thing of all.

Ah understood. Well, I only get the burning smell when I put the fan on. No smell when it's turned off. Isn't that OK? :)
