Hi All, new problem today.

Cigarette lighter was not working in the front of my Freelander TD4 2004, I checked the fuse and it was fine.

I read on here that you could fit another on the centre console where the rear ash tray used to be. I fitted this and got the same result not working while the car is running

Except that if you turn the key to the first notch both cigarette lighters work turning to the second turns it off again as does turning the ignition on.

Any ideas I have scoured this forum and online and can see no one with a similar issue.

I did notice that while in the fuse box under the steering wheel Relays 3 and 4 are both missing I have one spare relay and tried it in either this made no difference.

Any help would be great

obviously you need to connect to a permanent live, or at least live when ignition on full, posting an introduction as per forum etiquette may get you better replies

Thanks for your reply. I understand that there needs to be a live or live when the ignition is live. From what I understand is that the lead in the centre console was supposed to be permanent live. Also I have not touched wiring at the one below the radio and it has the same symptoms.

At least it works when it should on position 1 ...is there anything else wrong in the cab electrical wise?

No that I have found, have not had the car 3 weeks yet.

Means I cant charge my phone on the move :(

Any ideas of getting power to both these sockets without having to run a new wire.

What i don't understand is why they work in position 1 but not in 2 or 3.

My cigarette lighter doesn't work when the engines running. I have to charge my phone in the socket in the back. I haven't investigated yet but i think there's a problem because the lights on the heater controls don't work either.

Position 1 on the ignition switch, aux circuits:-
cig lighter
feed to energise the aux socket relay
radio
Does the car have the original radio, is it wired up as it should be, or been rewired to overcome loss of aux circuit on switch position 2

It still has original radio, which keeps cutting out whilst using or not turning off when the engine is turned off and the keys are removed.

I plan to put an after market radio in and will check the wiring to it then.

Can you explain "rewired to overcome loss of aux circuit on position 2"

Thanks

Pull the fuse for the radio, I think it's 27, does the radio still work with ignition at off, 1, or 2.

Can someone confirm that on a facelift FL with the ignition off, you can turn the radio on, and it will then turn off automatically after so long.
I think this is how the OPs radio is working with the ignition at position 2, pointing again to a faulty ignition switch.

After a lot of testing and troubleshooting this looks to be a problem with the ignition.

Symptoms I am seeing are that the cigarette lighters only work on position 1 of the ignition anything else they do not work, I have also noticed that the clock light comes on at position 1 but then goes of again at any other position except when the lights are on. I just fitted a new stereo and found that the same applied to the ignition power feed for it and have had to wire it with constant power just now till I can get this solved.

Does anybody know what the problem with the ignition switch would be and if its something that could be fixed at home or will this need to go to a garage?

Thanks for your help.

I have a face lift and yes I can turn the radio on without ignition , I leave the radio switched on and after switching ignition off it will go off after about 10-15 seconds hope this helps
