cheap alternative to arch extensions wanted

Pay day i'll be looking out for a bigger set of wheels and tyres for the disco, to accomodate these i see that many people trim the wheel arches and fit arch extensions to tidy up the look.

I am a little bit loathe to shell out £80+ for a set of GRP extensions which will inevitably catch on something and break, so is there a cheap alternative?
Perhaps much cheaper arches from another 4x4 that will fit just as well?

any ideas?

Personally I'd spend a bit more and get a set of Flatdog arches. Here:Flexi Arches | Flatdog | Brands

They aren't made of grp or fibreglass and stand up to some serious abuse.

Was wedged up against and dragged along to pull me out of this bank at a pay and play and the arches (minus a few scratches) are unscathed.

Plenty of scrapped discos about so try second hand maybe. A simple rubber strip would do, google 'edging strip'. Imho, just buy flexi arches and sell them if you ever scrap or get rid of vehicle to recoup cost.

I really have 2 choices, to spend a bit more and buy flexible arches or continue to explore the DIY route, GRP is definitely a no go as the plan is to do pay and play days

Must be my "blonde day", spend around £450+ on tyres then skimp on the bit needed to make it legal and look the part

Your probably right, im a tight old git

What about the belting that the mines used to use to help extract coal from the mines. Made from reinforced rubber. It comes in any length and around three to four feet wide. Can be cut to suit and will last longer than the 4x4.
We used to make weightlifting belts out of it and resole work boots (really versatile).
Check mine or power station sites etc.

I did begin to consider that myself but struggled to find any pics online to see what the final product looked like

I bought some £80 ones on ebay and they have held up well in fairness and done quite a few pay and play and numerous laining days not as bad as people make out

im glad you said that, i must admit my first thought was that they would last 2 mins.
Initially i had written them off but i'm now re-considering.

When i bought the disco i promised my wife i wouldnt end up spending a fortune on it so cannot really justify spending over £100 on wheel arch extensions

Yeah well i thought the same thing i spent quite alot at the start then decided to go with the cheaper option with a view id get a year out of them and see how we go but iv dropped into ruts banging them in to trees scraped along embankment etc and i thik one of the back ones has a small chip on the underside so after 6 months im happy and the guy i bought them from will sell them separate so just replace as and when you need to hope this helps a little more good luck

Could you share the details of where you got them from mate, i have seen a few different sellers on ebay
