After removing my suspension leafs I stripped out the bushes, one side pressed out ok, t'other was a bar steward and nearly broke mi press till I realised some kcirp had welded them in on one side.

Anyway I have a full set of bushes, should I try and get the ones out of the front chassis, are are they a bitch to get out and if theres still some life in them are they better left in?

The ones in the springs that werent welded in took 10 tons to get em going.

i cut em out with the boc spanner.
more fun pullin chassis bushes in tho, as it dont fit in me press like leafers or arms.
make sure holes are clean, an a smear of lube.
a spare spring bolt an threaded shackle aids pulling in.

I had made a jig but wish I'd never bothered effing things.
Cut the rubber with a holesaw, got the centre out, cut the outer in 4 places with shark saw, tw@tted the hell out of the shell and so far just got a load of twisted rusty steel in the hole, no effing way does it want to go, gonna borrow a pneumatic ammer today.

damn! guess what im at tomorrow.... front chassis bushes!
any advice on lean?
did the back and havent done up the shackles yet till i have the front done too, but looks way down on driver side.

Depends on your springs, originals and good quality ones are handed, drivers side being stiffer as its heavier on that side.
Otherwise you'll list to the drivers side.
You've not got sides mixed up by any chance?
And your correct I put the bolts in lower the vehicle then reach round and tighten the bolts, so that the rubbers are not twisted when the vehicle is at rest.

The fronts were a bar steward to get out.

kind of figured they were on wrong side to start with, so i swapped them.
no markings as to rhs or lhs.
rear ones look new ish,, 10yrs?
front look older but still no marks, where would they be?

real bad time with a front shackle and bush. bolt rusted to bush so had to rip the rubber one click at a time with a big ratchet and scaff tube!
threadded side off. now to drill out the rubber to get the bolt and shackle off!

now to drill out the rubber to get the bolt and shackle off!
unfortunately they have a steel sleeve that the bolt goes thru.
tis this bit that'll be seized, so drilling the rubber out wont allow bolt to be removed from shackle.
spose if you did, you could then grind sleeve off, but it'd be easier to cut bolt head off and use a new un'.

look at the photo, the top left is the offside chassis bush, it was a proper b1tch, I bashed it with a selection of hammers for an hour to get it out.

If you drill out the rubber like you say, bash out the centre tube, then get a hacksaw take the blade out, put it through the hole, then put the blade back in the saw again, then saw through the outer bush sleeve being carefull not to cut the chassis too much, then bash over the sides of the tube away from the chasiss, you can only get about half way down the chassis tube doing this, at that point just bash away with a piece of round bar till you've peeled enough of the shell away for it to let go.
Its a ****e job.
Use a round bar if you have one, a chisel cuts grooves in the chassis and you wont be able to get the new bush in, if you do damage the chassis a sanding drum that fits on a leccy drill will clean things up, might be worth doing that anyways as the new ones will be fecking tight.
A length of threaded bar 12mm and a couple of washers made from flat bar is usefull for fitting the new bushes, put the bar through the chasiss then pull them in, using a socket the right size up against the bush.

Seems were all try to change suspension at the same time :)

Im having trouble removing the rear leaf spring bolts, it seems like there seized on the bushes, as you can turn them slightly but then they bounce back.

Any advice to get them out with as little disruption as possible, as im not looking to swap the bushes.

persistance.
and buy a new bush bolt and nut as well. chances are your gonna trash it.

Going to try any get some heat on it later, and hopefully a good dosing of wd40 will free it..

Just when i thought id have an easy job with it :)

Was freezing working in the garage last night, time to upgrade the heater me thinks..

Cut the bolts with a hacksaw on the inside of the hangers, remove springs, replace bushes and bolts. Heat will bugger the rubber.

Seriously, don't waste your time trying to get a seized spring bolt out, you'll spend hours cursing and swearing and still end up cutting it off.
For the price of a new bush and bolt it's not worth the hassle
