Today I was giving my 90 it's regular repairs then I discovered this!:

Bloody spring mount is it called? Snapped off on 1 side.

It's one thing after another lol it's a good job I love it!!! Is this a big job? Iv not welded before so I'm not sure if I could tackle it myself. What sort of cost would be expected for the repair?

Cheers!

Thanks James Martin. It looks to be solid behind. If not would it be a case of plating it then welding the spring mount to the plate?

I would like to learn to weld but have no experience at it. Would it be a job I could do diy at home? Iv done a lot of stuff to it myself eg. Clutch, injector pump, timing belt ect would this be possible for an enthusiastic learner to manage this job?

Thanks again jamesmartain what sort of welder and amp power would I need? I would rarther learn to do it myself and it's another step towards self sufficient motoring!

Although if you haven't welded before and you self that mount with not good enough welds it will just come off potentially causing an accident.... If not sure get a mobile welder or garage to do it

Yes I can see your point, but I want to learn to weld and I would practice first. If I don't learn to a good enough standard I'll not do it myself. Don't worry I'm not daft I will make sure it's safe but thank you for the advice.

How will you be able to tell? Will you x-ray the weld to make sure you have good enough penetration?
Welding isn't just about sticking two pieces of metal together.

I wouldn't bother mate. By all means, learn to weld, but put it to practice on something that's not going to cause an accident when you hit that little bloody pothole doing 70mph on the M6..

Coming from an experienced welder/mechanic/MOT tester.

Ste.

Ok cheers guys so maybe I shouldn't do it? I'll get a quote for it doing then.

Its not even a hours work.
From my experience mechanics are not welders and welders are not mechanics, I've never met one who can do both satisfactorily, Take that to a fabricator rather than a garage.
