Now all the big jobs that were beyond my control are out of the way (gearbox not included but I consider being in control of that!), the only thing I've not been truly happy with on my Rangie are the 22 inch wheels. I love every other mod the previous owners have done but I've always thought that 22's were a little much.

So chaps this is where you come in. I'm wanting to go back to the original style that would have been factory fitted on a 2004 Vogue V8. I think it's gunmetal grey (I'm colour blind) and there's tonnes of different pics out there ranging from 19 inch to 20 inch. What would have been on mine rolling out of the factory back in the day then? Or are there other 19's you'd recommend that would look good on my colour?

Thanks in advance as always

The 22's have a reputation for poor driveabillity, but if you go as small as 18 or 19 after 22's you will be disappointing with the look, how about the 20 inch stormers like i put on my p38 they have the same rolling radius as 18's with 55 tyres so drives well and speedo is spot on.

The Stormers have now made it onto the shortlist. Well, the first ones on there to be honest. I must admit, I can't complain about the driveability of the 22's but then again I only have standard Discoverys and a Freelander to compare them to! I just am not keen on the fact that they are a bit "too" big and I'm not a flashy kind of chap. Then again I do like to hold it in 2nd gear to hear the v8 burble so maybe I do like a bit of attention :rolleyes:

As long as you have 255/45/20 tyres on your 20" wheels. Might tend to loosen a few fillings over rough ground. :D:D

you would of had 19's on standard on a v8, 18's on a diesel i've attached a pic of the standard wheels that were on my 2003 v8 out the factory, i changed my wheels last year i avoided 22's as they have a reputation for cracking and with pot holes round these parts was a risk (even 1 of my 19's got cracked) i did look at 20's as well but opted for the range rover sport 19's

275 40's the rides really good, running 36 rear 32 front, had them 36 all round and it was like a riding a rodeo steer!

255/55/18 would give rolling radius of 231.76 cm. 275/40/20 228.71 cm. So slightly smaller. Would give true speed of 29.6 and 59.2 mph at indicated 30 and 60 respectively. :);)

tyre calculator/speedo values when fitting the below tyre sizes to a range rover l322

l322 = 255/60/18 (speedo accurate)

l322 = 255/55/19 (speedo accurate)

l322 v8 = 255/50/20 (speedo accurate)

r/r sport =275/40/20 (speedo incorrect)

bling =285/35/22 (speedo accurate)

Incorrect but not illegal.

I'd try and fit either 17 or 18" wheels with some proper tyres. Range Rovers, hell 4x4's in general on pram wheels just look rubbish.

Yeah i was thinking last night after your post quoting the outer diameters, if a 3mm difference in diameter has an effect on your actual speed then the difference between new tyres with 8mm tread and worn tyres with 2mm tread would be about 3mph at 60?

On vehicles made in or after 2001 it is illegal for the speedo to read LESS than the actual road speed. The road speed can be less than indicated but not more. I used a P38 tyre size in my comparison so the actual figures should be as follows.

For L332.

255/55/19 rolling radius 239.73 cm. 275/40/20 rolling radius 228.71 cm. Giving a true road speed of 28.6 mph and 57.2 mph at 30 and 60 indicated respectively. Which is not illegal.

45 profile would still be ok. But 50 profile would be just illegal on unworn tyres.

Before that time speedo regs were plus or minus 10% at 30 mph. That is why 30 zone speed cameras are set not to go off until the vehicle is doing more than 35 mph. 30 mph plus 10% plus 2 mph is the setting for them.

I ride on these. They are okay. 20" genuine parts. 18" would be too small and if you going 19" then you might as well go 20". Tyre price is not that bad. No offroading on them though.

When they clean they are bigger - visually only tho haha. Avoid dark wheels in small sizes optically they look like they shouldn't be on the car.

Are you after the real ones or reps? I know people use these a lot of the T5 VW vans. So that can be another avenue to secure them cheaper.
