L322 L322 Wheels - 20” to 22” upgrade?

New owner of 2005 RR L322, 4.2L s/c.

Is there any reason I couldn’t upgrade the alloy sizes from the current 20” to new 22”? It seems they’d fit in the wheel arches, but I’d have to be careful with the tyre profile.

Are there any tyre management systems that would go haywire if I did?

Of course that does depend on which tyres you buy. I've just changed to a slightly larger profile to match the original diameter of the 19" which both reduced wheel rpm and improved speedo accuracy.

First there was huge wheels with iron rims.
Then the iron band was superseded by solid rubber, followed by the pneumatic tyre, which gave a marginally better ride.

Now people want to spend a fortune on huge wheels with miniscule aspect ratios .. what goes around (no pun intended) comes around :rolleyes:

We actually downsized our rim diameter to get choice of winter tyres. Now run them all year as we are not damaging the tyres so much now in the pot oles (note so much).
Keep the overall size as close as you can and no issue with the systems response.

You may however find you don’t have such a nice ride on the inside regardless of how good you think it may look on the outside. So think about spending money on looking good at the expense of something else.

22" rims and tyres can cause steering oscillation due to the lack of flex in the sidewall. RRS (L320) used to suffer this issue if the steering rack was tuned for smaller wheels and subsequently fitted with larger ones, the only fix was the correct steering rack. I'm not sure if this would also apply to L322 but it's potentially something to consider.
