I think I might’ve found a gap in the market because this becoming so much harder than I’d ever imagined, literally no one is getting back to me, I’ll find someone eventually, I wonder if it’s worth advertising on here if someone has the ability, there must be someone on this site surely

Have you asked on the Freel2 forum?

There might be someone there that's local to you, who could modify the CCFs for you.

Alternatively there are cheap cables and cloned SDD software about, which would likely allow you to do it yourself.

If you go to Scotland often, then I know Discomikey has a wide range of diagnostic and programming equipment for LRs at his garage, so he'd be able to do it for you.

So we generally go to Inverness 2-3 times a year but because of Covid we’re now not planning anything until next July, it’s not off the table tho, if it means waiting that’s fine, do you know what part of Scotland he’s in, I think I’ll reach out to the freel2 forum, it’s worth a shot, with persistence I’ll get a bite eventually
 
If you're not doing any long journeys for a while, you probably don't need the 6 disc HU anyway.
I think discomikey is in Glasgow, he used to do mobile LR repairs, but was so busy he was able to open a garage of his own.
He used to frequent here quite often, but inevitably work gets in the way, so he's not on often.

You could try pinging him a PM on here. ;)
 
I can fully agree that CDs have better sampling and you can hear the difference. I still have over 1000 cds and they are all on MP3, and yes it took about 2 weeks and do I play the MP3s, hardly ever. But I defy anyone to hear the sound difference between a single CD with 5 more on in the glove box and a 6 cd changer, the only difference is that the 6 CD changer is 10x more likely to go wrong. As a person who junks multi-changers in favour of the simpliciy and convenience of single players I can't get my head around the point of this.

I think now it’s become more of a challenge than anything else, like someone pointing to the top of a mountain and saying that’s unclimbable, I dont want to admit defeat plus I’ve bought the unit now and it stares at me every time I walk in the garage

I think the fact that the standard single disc player was being replaced with a factory 6 disc player at all, was more to do with some posters saying why bother at all, just fit an MP3 player instead.
IMO MP3s sound very different from CDs (compression is horrible), so are an inferior music storage medium, especially so on HiFi quality audio systems of the higher spec LRs.
 
A work collegue who is a world class expert on work related hearing loss swears we are all doomed to become heavy metal fans as it is all we will be able to hear!
 
I think some people must just have better hearing than others and not necessarily age related. Years ago I had a friend who was obsessed with the sound quality of his home hi fi system. After he had spent a fortune on a new amplifier and speakers, he invited me to listen to the difference, he played a track from an LP on his old system and then repeated it on the new one, I couldn't tell the difference no matter how hard I listened. Sadly, he died of CJD despite being a vegetarian. There is probably a moral in there somewhere. An MP3 player might lose a bit of quality but they are massively more convenient.

I too have a freind who is obsessed with high end hi-fi and I can't tell the difference either. It may be noticable in a sound proof room but in a normal living room with carpet and cupboards?

I can hear the difference between CD and the same track compressed to MP3, on both my home HiFi, and my FL2 !
Alpine audio system.
The difference in sound is quite striking.

Hi there, reading your problems with your CD player. I have bought a lovely F2 XS (2011) but no USB port and only 1 x single CD player.
In the absence of an ability to play music from my iPhone, I was very disappointed when I discovered that the car had only a single CD player, so thought I could upgrade to a 6 CD player.
Like you, I checked out all connectors for both 1 and 6 CD players and all looked identical. I took a punt and bought a 6 CD player and radio player facia (off the same car??). I changed out all today but no joy. The radio works fine but no CD! I even tried re-fitting the original facia but still no joy. So I have put all original parts back together, at least I have 1 CD working!
Did you have any success with your attempt at upgrading? Would be very interested.

It's not easy to upgrade the factory audio system on any vehicle now. Basically if you want a particular feature, you need to buy a vehicle with it. The Freelander system can be upgraded, but it would need the software changes to make it work.
I have an SE, which has the 6 disc charger which plays data CDs.

However for Bluetooth use, I just use a Bluetooth adapter which plugs into the aux socket and a USB power socket in the outlet next to the aux socket. It's compact and convenient, for those odd times I don't use my CD music.
