Central locking not working off remote

you can check first if the rf receiver is comunicating with the BCU... there is a RF test facility, programm the key fob into the BCU then IMO it should work... see the nanocom BCU guide
 
also while you are in alarm disarm settings set it to ''always'' that will let you unlock it without the alarm going off if the fob fails to unlock and you can save another EKA which is a combination of small numbers to be easy to insert... i've set it to be like my card's pin code ;)

If you want to get a spare key, then this is similar to whet I got, as you already have the key blade and the cover all you would need from this is the inside PCB. Then if you want we can get it reprogrammed.

Sierraferry, FYI, from this morning, original ( OLD ) keyfob would sync, but would not go the final stage and show detected. New keyfob showed detected and is working for Bazza, ( fingers crossed) .
If you have any ideas for what else could be checked for future reference then please let us know.

it means that the old key is fubar'd...as about rover keys they work to lock/unlock and start immediately but they miss the passive remobilisation ''transponder'' so after the unlock request with the fob you must start the engine within one minute or it will not start untill another unlock command, the same if the car was not locked just ignition off for more than 5 minutes... so it works just that if it doesnt start and extra unlock command from the fob is needed... to work 100% as it should a D2 fob is needed but even that is way cheaper than 160 quid which means £89.99(inc VAT) http://www.remotekey.co.uk/land-rover/land-rover-discovery-ii-discovery-series-2-year-1999-to-2006/ ...so if a spare is needed that's the way to go IMO

Good point about the transponder, did not check to see if the new key Bazza has had the transponder chip in it.
For the sake of £70 difference , I can live without having the transponder in the key fob. As I tend to start the car straight away. Although my original key ring does not a transponder in it. Do all Disco 2 ' s have the transponder fitted?

the D2 fob is different, it's not a separate transponder unit like in the rover key, it's a, LC circuit with a capacitor and a ''coil'' printed on the PCB;s back... that pointed bit is missing in the rover fob which has a transponder chip in the cover and that's missing in the D2 fob

Cool , thanks Sierraferry,

will have to have a play with my "rover" key fob, which I just checked and it does not have the transponder in it. To see what difference it makes to starting. if it only the 1 minute window to start etc. as mentioned in your previous post then not that big a deal as long as I remember it....
