central locking actuator

hi guys, my front passenger door central locking actuator isn't lifting the button on opening the car with the remote. can these actuators be repaired as its the second one ive changed on this door in the 15 yrs ive had the car. any ideas would be most welcome, thanks frizzy

Apparently they can be repaired if you're that way inclined, but the general feedback seems to be to just replace them with a new unit.

Yes as stated above and it’s been discussed before, therefor if you search you will find the type, part numbers and where to purchase the replacement servo/motors... so there’s thanks to the person that has done the research.
Or do as suggested replace the unit, how to do that has also been discussed in detail.
I didn’t take much interest, as my D1 like others doesn’t suffer with this issue.

People have said in the past that these door latch assemblies can be repaired, but that depends on three things:-

1. Getting into the faulty latch. I've tried and quite frankly I gave it up as a bad job after a couple of hours.
   
2. Having gained access to the gubbins, can you get a suitable replacement part? I read somewhere that suitable motors were available from "Radio Shack". Are they still trading in the UK?
   
3. Putting the whole damned shooting match back together, assuming that 1 and 2 above went as you intend and you didn't do too much damage to the thing when you finally did gain access.

In the end I bought a new latch.

Oh wait , that is crazy, buy a replacement unit, make life easy for yourself. I have tried to strip one down , same as Mr B above and it is a waste of time IMO.

Funny enough I fitted a new one yesterday and also couldn’t be bothered trying to repair it, took 2 x hours anyway so thought it better to simply fit a new one

In almost all cases of the latch failing on the D2, it will fail in the unlock motor. This means that the door can't be opened from the outside but it can be opened by using the internal handle. Once it has been opened from the inside, the door will work as expected using either handle, outside or inside until the vehicle is locked again.
There is one major problem beyond the failure of the latch and that is when the "Child lock" safety system has been engaged. That prevents the door being opened from the inside, so if the latch fails in that condition then the problem has just got worse. For instance how does one get the door card off without opening the door.
Many owners who have young children will know the value of the child lock and some even leave it engaged permanently, but should the latch fail then they have a bit more trouble on their hands to replace it.
