Disco 2 CD Changer not working

hi all the cd changer has stopped working in our D2, the message says no cd, when cd are in the cassette, I've just bought a Freelander 1 54 plate, this too as the same problem, does anyone know how to fix this?

I had the same problem. I removed the changer, took it apart, cleaned the inside, and re-greased moving parts, reassembled and it worked.

I have now however changed the head unit, as my original one wouldn't light up, so made things tricky at night! I replaced it with a £80 Pioneer head unit, and the difference in sound quality is a big improvement, even with the original speakers.

I did all that as well to mine but it packed up again after a few weeks. Now use mp3s on the phone with a bluetooth connection.....

I find if you push the cartridge to the right and press eject at the same time it pops it out.

No an unknown problem with the Philips unit, sometimes rearranging the CDs in the cartridge works, but it's also down to wear of the mechanism.
If you decide to replace the CD changer make sure it's of the same make ie. Philips headunit to Philips CD changer as every manufacture has the communication protocol between the two, so a Philips to Clarion or whatever is no good.

Mine did this and the local repair place said it was very common and would cost about £80 to sort out. I opted for an Alpine replacement head unit which has built in hands free capability and to be honest the sound quality is better. I have lost my column mounted stalks as I was too tight to but the extra bit of kit but to be honest I never used them anyway. Fitting was just a straight swap but I had to buy a plastic trim part that goes under the new head unit to fill in a blank as the other original unit is a little bit bigger than standard.
