Question. If I can pick up the same model of CCU for an 03, TD4, pre facelift freelander, from a car breakers, can I swap it out? Or is it linked to the alarm, ECU and Engine? I am aware that some cars are all interlinked, and need reprogrammed, but hoping (praying) that at 03, may not be the case.

Have separate post on here about central locking nightmares, and think the CCU is the problem. I am desperate.......

If not the CCU that controls the central locking, what does?

Any help or pointers greatly appreciated..

You'll need the remote fobs to go with the replacement CCU.
Immobilization is done by the key, alarm module and EDC, which you shouldn't need.

So a replacment CCU, 2nd hand, should not scew up the car any worse than it is? Do not have orginal fobs, but I do have a spare 3 door, 04, which was a projects, but keeps getting bits nicked off it. Would an o4, Td4 be the same CCU? I will check model number on each.

The 3 door has a different set of rules, as there's a removable rear body section to deal with.

All you can do is try it. I don't think it'll be vastly different TBH.

But will a new fob fix the problem? Never had the fobs, so cant see how fobs would cure my problem.

And CCU controls Central locking?? And will I be able to to replace with a 2nd Hand unit, same part number, without screwing other things up? Replacement Fobs I can look at later, just need the damn doors to unlock, particularly the back door.

Purely answering your question and clarifying that the fob is programmed to the ccu not the other way around.
I'd change the ccu and take it from there.

Good luck.

from testing, Starting, Opening doors etc, it seems that when I turn the car off the Central Locking is activated and locks all doors. It will not Unlock the doors either when car starts, or by key to drviers door,It used to (Again, do not have the fob)

This seems to be reason back door can't be opened.Other doors will open from handle on the inside. And thanks to smart Landy designers, rear door does not have an internal handle....

The alarm going of when starting the car, has stopped happening., as has the internal light staying on

Is there a way to force the Central locking to disengage. And can it be disconnected and left disengaged?

Also, what is the purpose of the key lock on the rear door,if it will not let the door be unlocked manually?

Thats not correct. The doors should only lock with the dash switch, the key in the driver's door, or the remote fob.

The CCU hasn't unlocked the door locks, just the deadlocks (single point unlocking). Have you tried turning the driver's door key to the unlock position twice? If you have the fob, you'd normally press the unlock button twice, for all other doors to unlock, when single point unlocking is programmed.

That's also weird.

No. The central locking is permanent.
Also, what is the purpose of the key lock on the rear door,if it will not let the door be unlocked manually?
The rear door key lock it to close the rear window, when it's been opened by the remote fob.

Following up on this, With Covit and shutdown, I am taking the opportunity to take a close look at this. Issue currently is that central locking is now not working. wont lock or unlock the doors. Rear door is locked, and will not open.

Any idea where I start to find why central locking will not work? Also is there an easy way to get the rear door to open.

With my software you can control a lot of the CCU outputs from the diagnostic port. Central locking motors is on the list. Also if you do replace the CCU you can code remote fobs.
This is list of outputs that you can control from software.

You can also see the signals that the CCU is seeing from the switches as well.
A few weeks ago the tailgate glass jammed on my wife's Freelander and using the software was the only way to get the glass where I needed it to be to fix it.
