Looks like my CB has died (no display and its seems to be stuck on one channel (not the one i use :mad:) so its new CB time.

Any particuarly better than others, any to avoid? Looking at around the £60-80 mark :)
 
Tti cb are bloody good and great price aswell. Had their 550 in my old 90 which is the cheapest at £50 odd and worked brilliant no problems at all. Now got their 660 and again brilliant product without any problems couldn't fault either of them.

TTi 881 for me, pretty advanced depending on what you need. Bought it for about £120 when it first came out, now down to about £80.
 
Unless you really want new Ebay and Gumtree has hundreds of second hand ones starting around 20 quid, a Uniden 100 for £35 is worth a punt.
 
i have a maycom em-27.

Top bit of kit, thoroughly recommended. I however can't tell you how it compares to say a midland.

It has all the usual features and there is channel and volume buttons on the mike annorl.

I got one too..
not much on mine at all really now, in either UK or EU modes,
but thinking of doing this

seems an easy fix...
it`ll give a bored old bloke something to do ;)

if its on a disco theres lots of metal for it to "earth" out,
as your 2 screws that clamp your gutter mount will effectively be earthing anyway.
the cb itself needs no earth if all connections are good.
obviously a central roof mounted ariel gives out a better radiated signal
(a better more central signal) that`s why mag mounts work well.
mines on my roof via a mag mount, but its just behind the first crossbar on my roof bars, but has a discreet cable tie holding it more secure for when I go under hight restrictions as on car parks and the like -
it goes - scrape, twang.. :D
never fallen off yet......;)

I'll give it a bash tomorrow. Might look into a mag mount though. Cable tie to secure it to the light bar perhaps.

might work,
but it`ll be way forewards :confused:

lets be honest, gutter mounts have been used by millions over the years,
I used one when I was "cabbing" (taxi-ing) for a while,
to stop paint damage I slipped a piece of ally or brass along the gutter where the screws touched,
worked fine.
 
a gutter mount works fine on my disco the swr is really low aswell it was less hassle tuning it in, you dont have to keep trying to get on the roof if your short like me:D
 
I've got a 'Midland Alan 48 Plus', does the job but like any CB it's only as good as the aerial it's attached to. My aerial is mounted mid roof (Disco 2) took the interior trim out to drill the hole and ran the cable down to the CB hidden behind the trim. Once the aerial was tuned I got a reading of 1:1 which is about as good as it gets. The only misgiving I have with the Midland is the blue illumination which lights up the whole interior at night, performance wise it's very good though the 'mic gain' has to be turned up to maximum but once it's set no need to touch it.
