cb issues

got the midland 78plus. its powered direct to battery, thunderpole in middle of the roof. run an earth from antenna to chasis.
the problem is that i can be heard clearly and got plenty of power, but i cannot hear others. any transmission comes through as noise and nothing on power metre?

But they can hear you? S'odd, usually the other way around!............Er, how do you know they can hear you if they can't tell you that they have?

i went to a service station and tested it with a trucker......

If yer right next to him even if you're putting out a teensy bit of power it's going to register a good reading. If he then broadcast back and you could hear nothing it's probably bust!

So, when he broadcast back, did you get white noise (loud hiss) or what? If it's not showing on the meter it doesn't look good. I'm guessing in order to hear as much as possible you had the squelch turned right down so there was just hiss all the time?

Was it working before or have you only just installed it?

does it have rf gain, if so turn this right up

just re read that, your twig(as its called) is out of swr

no rf gain, squelsh was set fine. and was trying all sorts down the motorway

Yer reckon Yella? If it is, get it sorted quick. Transmitting if it's way out will feck yer set up cuz the power is being reflected down yer twig & into yer set.

yup, either that or the twig is shagged. cant see it being the set, how old is it, whee did you get it from, the problem with a lot of 2nd hand sets is that people feck about with them, fitting mid blocks, usb,lsb etc etc

aye, there is more to fitting a cb than cobbling a couple o wires and an aerial

so what do you think caused this then?

maplins! everything is new apart of antenna to unit cable and the roof mount

well answer the questions about your set first, then we will try to eliminate things

didnt have a first set, they were there when i got the landy

so you have used an old aerial mount, where did you get it from, what sort is it, where have you fitted it

yes, it was on it when i got it, dome, slap bang middle of the roof

get a new one then, it stands a good chance of being your problem

i dont think so. its in good nick, both connectors are clean and make contact. what else can go wrong

the wire in the middle, hey im offering advice, if you know better then go for it, but dont come crying when it still dont work
