Carrying a motorbike on the back of a landy?

Made this from stuff out the scrap pile at work so didnt cost a penny ,copy of a dave cooper but much heavyer ,carrys my CR 250 with ease and ive had a dr 350 on it

one thing im not sure on is the legality of them. Sure you can put a lightboard on etc and the police dont seem to take any notice. But if you had a crash with a bike on the back im not sure where you would stand.

Its personal choice of course and the opposite party would be covered (i presume?) however if the weight was above the noseweight (having calculated what is would be with the increased distance etc) would that invalidate your insurance?

I had my cr500 on the back of my renault laguna a few years back on a dave cooper rack and it was terrifying. Lifted the front so much that in the wet you could barely steer at all. And thats a bike that weighs 95kg!

just buy a motolug trailer and be done with it. So much handier!

Don't know about you but, I'm 5'7 and 10 1/2 stone, and don't think I could lift my rm250 up there let alone after a days riding,

Left side folds down for a ramp and a temporary bridge piece fits in the middle to roll it across.

The bike's a KLR derived diesel, I think (but am probably wrong) it's a canvas top hummer and the rack I think is homemade but I can't remember who it was that built it.
The MOD did experiment with a similar thing to fit landys for the Armstrong/Harley MT350 using the jacking points in the rear crossmember to mount it, I have some pictures somewhere I'll see if I can find them.

Pretty sure I've seen them. Might be the aussies with their 6x6 lrrp though.

Happy I came across this post.

Heres my dilemma ....

I have a Disco 2 TD5 with air sus on the rear. My mx bike rack (similiar to dave cooper) is 2 wide which takes 2 x MX bikes top and tailed. I hope to mount a KTM 250 and KTM 450 (4 stroke) onto the rack however both bikes weigh around 120kgs each.

Can someone lay down the facts as im comcerned about nose weight legislation.

You just need to be aware of the extra weight hanging off the back,and have a lighting board/ number plate to keep it legal.It also means you can still use the outside lane on motorways which you cant with a trailer on.No reversing problems in narrow country lanes either.
