Evenin all:)

Just bought me a caravan for off roading weekends :) Needs a bit of work:(

Anyway, done a bunch of searching but cant find answer to what kit I should use to add a 12S lead to the Defender to charge the leisure battery on the caravan.

Seems to be a few different types of splitters about and not sure what is best set up.

Any advice welcome:confused:

Depending which defender you have lots of kits on eBay etc. which are fitted without splicing wires, soldering connections and so on. I replaced 12n electrics with 13 pin in a couple of hours using Land Rover genuine harness to suit new caravan - and I am no electrician.

The wiring for relay this doesn't look to complicated.;)

Mate of mine got me to call his vehicle sparky, who said not need to run from the battery and battery box, there is a spare connector under the tub by the offside rear wheel. He would take all necessary connections for the 12s from there.

Anyone know about this? I do remember seeing a small socket a while ago. Tucked it out the way and its too wet to go look now.

Can find anyone else talking about wiring into this for the 12S:confused:

I ran a 4m grey 7 core from the socket of my 110 down the chassis into the battery box.

I originally purchased a kit which had a heavy duty relay and got them to increase the length of the 7 core for me.

The only downside was you need to ensure the relay supplying the charge and fridge supplies is only active when the engine is running. As I did not want to tap into the TD5 loom I finally added a voltage sensing relay that drives the main relay. Complicated.

Ironically I have just found this thread as I am now trying to find a decent supplier to rewire the Mrs 300 Disco. I am looking for a 12n loom with the plug on (When I had my previous Disco this only cost £7) anyone know the part number?

I will also probably fit a 12s too so it can tow the caravan and charge the battery / run fridge in transit.

Basically do NOT trust your autoelectrician about clipping into the wiring loom for the 12s power supply. You need a fused supply that is only live when the engine is running (14v+) from the battery using a heavy duty cable, the reason being that the voltage/current loss from Battery to battery in a caravan is quite significant when you realise that it is traveling 8m through fairly small gauge wire. You may end up with virtually no charging even on a long run.
