I set up a car pc, but instead of going to expensive route of getting a dedicated computer i just bought a 7' touch screen monitor, and hooked it up to my Asus Eee PC Seashell netbook. And a USB GPS with Garmin Mobile PC for sat nav an RCAs for the sound. all works really well, but im really struggling with a place for the sceen. My original idea was to mount it where the factory sat nav goes but that slot is too small.

I have kind of bodged it for now see photos.

I was wondering if you lot had any ideas where i could mount the screen i dont mind doing a bit of chopping but not to much.

let me know what you think.

Ill admit it does look a bit of a mess atm. i did only plonk it in today. the wires will need tiding up. its the screen mainly.

Thats sad. you have matched your computer with the wood trim off the car,:D:D:D

What you on about!? that was the background i had on my computer before.

I am going to find a much better background to match my trim!:D

An yeah i was going to get rid of the slot, but the screen is taller than advertised. so i would have to eat into the trim above the stereo and it just seems a bit messy.

does anyone know whats behind the slot??

Ive got a bit of free time on Wednesday so i was going to drill a few holes an find out.lol

ive got a second facia, theres nowt behind the facia to get in the way and if you take the innards out of the screen, inluding screen itself, you can then cut/fill/spray it all up so it looks like it should be there!

what front end you using?

ive got centrafuse and its the dogs danglies

Ive seen centrafuse but i dont like the look of it. just rather use window. Is it really that good? Whats so good about it?

What do you mean you have a second facia? I was going to take the screen apart an try an mount it. so your saying i would be able to go in to the slot witha drill an jigsaw without much worry.:violent:

it'd be better to take the whole facia out, if drill slips yer into wires, i meant there is plenty of room behind there to get all the screen in!! and i have one(as pictured, stuck to me foot!)

cost around 20 quid.

have you used centrafuse? on the small touchscreen windows is too small, centrafuse is just like a touchscreen stereo so it looks more sleek. also ver 3 is coming soon, should have improved look to it!!!

ver 2 and 3 are customisable with range/land rover splash screens and backgrounds etc!!

Nice foot mate!:lvkiss-106: LOL

Is it difficult to get the fascia out?? had a look for some screws cant really see any.
Dam well made cars!:)

pop the cheek panels off the side of the centre console and you'll see em. theres one near the speedo too. look in first of my pics, i'll circle em. brb

Alright gav i must admit i do like centrafuse. Is there any way to get my laptop to come back on without having to lift up the lid an press enter or the on button???

ive put it in the pm i sent you.

you need wake on lan and a loopback connector (lan plug with two wires that go through a relay and are connected when ign is on!

for shut down use shut control, a little proggy that shuts the comp down after a set priod when power cable is removed ( or switched off via ignition and another relay)

you'll need a 12v ciggy lighter type power lead for your particular model. ebay it

Gav i have tried to do the loop back thing but when im in options for the NIC card it wont let me click the allow to turn on pc tick box!??

Any ideas?

And iv gone against taking the screen apart on mounting it in the dash. i may at a later date but it looks a bit complicated to me. so im going to the stick on the front look. ill have pics later.

you need to select wake on lan in the bios, that should do it, dont do it from in windows.

Also set it to do nothin when lid closed and or off button pressed. And set shut cotrol to put it in hibdrnate mode when shuttinb down. That way it will start quicker

Nah it still woundnt work.

Doesnt matter ive mounted my laptop under the steering wheel using strong velcro! (works a treat) so i can easily reach under an jus hit enter to turn it on.

But where i tried pulling the side panels out i cant get the 4 screws in the hold the panel under the steering wheel. ive got 2 in but the ones near the console wont go in! Not to worried as the panel stays up but if anyone has any tips.

no wake on lan????? what model is it????

the screws? you mean you can't get them in the slots/holes or you mean youve blocked em with comp?

Its an asus eeepc 1008ha. It doesnt matter tho its in an easy place to reach.

I mean i cant get the screws back in they go through the panel but its not lining up with the holes into the dash. illl take some photos inabit.

I havent received my inverter yet so i can plug my laptop in so it just runs on batt atm, which isnt to bad as it lasts about 3.5hours.

I was wondering if there was a way to wire up the inverter to the batt in the car. so i dont have to have it plugged into the cigarette lighter all the time.

Here are some photos its still only semi perminant. but you get he idea.

the velcro is good cause i can take the screen out of needed and ii need my laptop for work so i can be removed.

Theres a photo of the screws i cant get in, and where the panel is sticking out abit.

What do you think?
