I know this topic is really well covered elsewhere, I have read the Spider topic, so I just wanted to clarify some points :)

Problem:
Key remote sometimes doesn't work. I can use key to unlock door, but alarm goes off and immobiliser is on. Can't turn off the blaring alarm. I can run around the car, and remote finally works at some weird angle. The remote can then work fine for a day or two, and then go bad again. Remote is OK, I had it cleaned and re-soldered, and battery is also new.

What I have:
Discovery 1, 1998, manual gearbox, 300TDI, key remote control FOB with two buttons

What I don't have:
Second FOB, security number in users guide book :(

Questions

1. Will removal of the whole Spider box and it's wires solve the alarm and immobiliser problem? I don't need the alarm, I am fine with key operated central lock.

2. I understand that the solenoid bypass only takes care of the immobiliser, and will not solve my alarm sound problem? I do need to dig out that Spider box?

3. Maybe there is some other solution?

Thank you for any comments or ideas.

Cut out the alarm siren, that way you only get the indercators flashing.once unlocked with fob only use key as some can be weird like mine. As in if I lock with fob I have to unlock with fob,if I use the key to unlock the alarm goes off,but if I use the key to lock/unlock the alarm disarms fine.

The " spider" is the immobiliser ecu, the alarm ecu also controls the central locking therefore removing the alarm ecu will remove the central locking function.

Just get your fob refurbished by Remote Key or similar they will also replace the pcb crystal, they will also provide another working fob and the emergency access code. All the info is on their site.

You can lock via the door key or fob, but must unlock via the fob so the ecu disables the alarm before the unlocking the doors this is because the alarm is also voltage sensing.

I am in Latvia, the only place to replace the FOB is through the official dealer, and they are asking price near the worth of the car.

I already had the FOB cleaned and checked by an alarms specialist, the FOB is fine.

Problems then, you can bypass the spider and you can remove or power down the alarm ecu and you will also loose the factory fit central locking. If you still wish to have central locking then you will have to fit an after market system.

As it stands you will require a fully functional fob to remobilise your engine. Is the vehicles battery 100%?

Don't know how it actually works, but all you're talking about is the fob, the alarm ecu and the spider .. have you thought about the receiver? Like I say, I dunno where the receiver actually is, and the fact you can sometimes work it from a different position suggests a reception problem to me.
