Hi guys going to look at a 2001 td5 90 on the weekend and wondering if I bought it would i be able to why it remapped. Thanks I. Adavance

You can, but it's a little more involved, as the ECU chip has to be changed. But there are plenty of chip tuners who will do it, and the cost is similar to a standard (software only) remap.

Their standard remap for a TD5 is £235.

Best bet is to call them re the 2001 version and they will tell you.

Yes l read about the manifold issue, and it put me off having mine remapped tbh.

Although it's no big deal, l don't fancy getting it remapped and then having to pay £300 to get broken studs drilled out of the engine block.

The exhaust manifold in the TD 5 can warp and shear the studs. Although l don't know how common it is, and whether any improvements were made in the later TD 5

Apparantly the higher operating temperatures possible after a remap can make it more likely to happen.

Improved manifolds are available, but if the original is skimmed and refitted it doesn't warp again. But one or more studs can shear when it warps and need drilling out etc

Ah, thanks! :)

What's this about? I know the early TD5s have some weakness', but never heard about manifolds/studs? I've got a 1999 TD5 and might want it chipped one day. :)
Thanks!

What youve never heard of the warped manifold issue?
Or the chocolate head to block dowels.
Or Or:D
Like all engines if you look after it you will be fine, except in the case of the 19j in which case you are on a hiding to nothing!

I've heard about the dowels, but the manifold stuff has slipped past me. :) I try to be nice to it, warming it up before putting stress on it, fresh oil and filters in good time.

Turning the turbo boost up too high results in higher exhaust gas temps hence the manifold issues. You can get a hardened manifold stud set that has longer studs and spacers so that the forces are spread over a larger area. Some swear by cutting the webs on the manifold so that the manifold can "move" slightly but I've never had a problem running 1.4 bar of boost and a stage II map from Alive.

the manifolds warp and the studs snap on standard td5s driven by old ladies....you can get the manifold skimmed and usually the studs come out no bother. :)

Chip/map it and worry not :)

Mine was chipped by Gary and was running approx 20psi boost, I dewebbed the manifold and fitted different nuts and studs was fine after that
