basicly they couldn't be bothered, they tried to throw all sorts of barriers in the way too the phonecall went along the lines of

me ' this is g-man i am security at xxxxx store in yyyyyy town i have a group of travelers who have just been in the store i would like to report an under age, un-licensed driver '

plod 'we cant do anything unless we have a description of the vehicle and driver'

me 'its a white long wheelbase hi-top transit van, regestration *regestration given using the phonetic alphabet*

plod 'do you have prof the driver being under age'

me 'last time he was stopped inside the store by an one of your officers he was identified as being 16'

plod 'is the vehicle still in the carpark?'

me 'its just leaving now'

plod 'by the time we can get a car down there they will be long gone'

me 'their towing a horse box they won't be going very quick and their hardly hard to miss'

plod 'there is no need to get angry'

me 'i'm not angry, i'm astonished you have no intention to stop this, a 16 year old driving a heavy laden vehicle, towing a laden horsebox on the public highway'

plod 'we don't have the manpower'

me 'yet i have seen 4 officers in my store shopping in uniform today who were in no hurry'

plod 'we don't have anyone to come down there now'

me 'would you like me to stop and detain them until you do?'

plod 'NO you cant do that'

me 'on your head be it if they kill someone then goodbye'

And thr test was about 130 quid and now it seems to have gone stupid prices just to make you feel better lol Jai

There are two parts to the rules on towing trailers if you don't have a B+E licence. The key part in this case is the MAM of the trailer must not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, and the combination can't exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM to drive it on a Category B licence.

As the MAM of the trailer is 3.5 tonnes I don't think you aren't licenced to tow it.

Category B: Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes MAM and with up to eight passenger seats

Category B vehicles may be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM (allowing a combined weight up to 4.25 tonnes MAM) or a trailer over 750kgs MAM provided the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM.

For example:

* a vehicle with an unladen weight of 1.25 tonnes and a MAM of 2 tonnes coupled with a trailer with a MAM of 1.25 tonnes could be driven by the holder of a category B entitlement. This is because the MAM of the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes and also the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the drawing vehicle

Whereas

* the same vehicle with an unladen weight of 1.25 tonnes and a MAM of 2 tonnes when coupled with a trailer with a MAM of 1.5 tonnes would fall within category B+E. This is because although the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer is within the 3.5 tonnes MAM limit, the MAM of the trailer is more than the unladen weight of the drawing vehicle
* Vehicle manufacturers normally recommend a maximum weight of trailer appropriate to their vehicle. Details can usually be found in the vehicle's handbook or obtained from car dealerships. The size of the trailer recommended for an average family car with an unladen weight of around 1 tonne would be well within the new category B threshold.

Just fookin drag it.Who cares...

I see farmers round ere with 3 0r 4 trailers and kids(16) driveing stuff well over 2.5m wide...

Carry on and obey the speed limit of the road ahead...

Is this the same BoB who gets all upset if people change a chassis?

Save money on a test and get some of the 'gay' guys who are wise enough to tow it for you for say £50
I've had my licence for years and its right handy being able to tow trailers

nah nah nah nah nah

they aint interested. The law is an ass.The towing laws arent of any relevance.A friend who is a mater of months older than me can tow cos he got his test before the cut off isnt going to be any better a driver. The vehicle, seeing as its a landy is probbaly the best tow vehicle going. The trailer means you cant legally exceed 60 or use the outside lane on m ways. The B+E tests are finacially unviable.Id rather get a tug and a fine.

But driving a vehicle you are not licensed to drive, so presumably not insured, isn't?
I'm not suggesting it's a good or sensible law, just that it is the law.

yep but if the law is not enforced then what worth does it have other than to make money.
the tw@ who reviewed the Areg 500 000 mile deepender IN LANDROVER OWNER MAGAZINE ought to know better rather than takeing the money to promote PHILLIP HERBERTYS illegal landrover.
:amen:

the towing law in simple terms ;

you can LEGALY tow a sankey or twin axle trailer that weighs 750 kg empty with a 90,
but if yer put a bag of crisps in the trailer you need to STOP and book your trailer test ,

so i cut the plate off my sankey to make things a bit simpler, never had a problem round here, like yer say when yer in a 90 covered in ****e round back lanes yer int likely to get stopped !

towing two packs of bricks or bags of sand thru a city centre in the middle of the day your askin fer a pull, the trailer test is a complete waste of time, i dont see the point if yer dunt use a trailer every day?
