Hi have a series 2a 1969 petrol with a hydrolic pump fitted(for winch)but would really like an overdrive. Was looking looking at a friends the other day and the bolt holes seem the same has anyone tried to fit both? it would mean the pump would mount to the back of the overdrive (lookin down on it) would it fit between chassis and gearbox?

Any help would be great cheers Oli

no you cant run anything of the back of overdrive ,you could get a drive that runs off bottom of transfer box but must be rare as i have only seen one ,wouldnt it be easier to fit 3.54 diffs to gear up vehicle

fair enough cheers for the advice, is that a diff from a range rover? does it just bolt up to original

any 10 spline rover diff from rrc disco or defender, the only thing to watch for is filler plug in rear axle case some series dont have them and only early rr diffs have them in diff ,you can fit a filler youreself

re original question , yes you can fit both (although Land Rover said not possible) It does involve using a bottom pto for the hyd pump, and you need to be very patient getting nuts on (on end of bit of welding wire) as i did this to a 88 series 2a V8 back in late 70's
But as suggested better to alter diffs or transfer ratio , and do without the o/d , a lot cheaper as well as bottom pto V expensive if you can find one !

Range Rover diffs will mean you lose lower gearing for off-road, as it raises your gearing all the time. To be honest I wouldn't worry too much, you aren't going to gain much speed no matter what you do.

you can try just rear diff as long as you dont use 4wd to see if it suits you , made my truck much more liveable and would achieve reasonable motorway speeds on the flat

fair enough think im going to leave it standard for now going to use it off road a fair bit so just doing doing rear diff no good, cheers for the help
