I wonder if someone can help please – I was under my 156,000 mile RHD 2005 TD5 90 Defender yesterday doing another job and noticed that one of the small bore coolant pipes had been rubbing on the inner edge of the LHS forward chassis rail and had a significant score / wear mark and left unreplaced was going to fail at that point. I have tied up the hose to bring it away from the chassis but am struggling to work out which one I need to buy as a replacement.

All I can see is it is a smaller bore pipe, a single unit in a rough S shape, fitted to a fixed point at the bottom end into the bottom LHS of a component / the engine (can’t work out which) and at the top end it is fitted into a T piece which is on a larger bore pipe.

On the diagram it looks like item 37 but I can see that does not go into a bigger bore hose – so essentially I am trying to find a single small bore pipe on the LHS (about 35 – 40cm long) – does anyone have a coolant diagram that might help me further or even know pipe I need? I have found the attached diagram via the search function but am now at a dead end.
Thanks

Gary

^^^ good point there:) ...@tyclyd, if no joy with this layout click on the top of the page on Defender and you'll get back to all the systems, you just have to find the proper layout

that's a discovery 2 diagram which might not be similar with the Defender, check out the links in this site Allbrit.de - Ersatzteile für LAND ROVER & MG ROVER , if it's the similar of 37 on D2 it might be 18 in the defender layout

Excellent - thanks, I would say that 18 is the closest fit (its deffo a coolant pipe no PAS) but any idea where the free end of 18 would fit, I am looking for the T section the larger bore pipe to confirm?

Does your landy still have the EGR valve fitted? Is it a cylindrical object that it attaches to or does it look a bit like a sardine tin?

It sounds like either the fuel cooler hose (which I think is the most likely) or an egr cooler hose.

Later type fuel cooler which yours should be

You could strengthen the pipe up with some amalgamation tape and then to protect it (or it's replacement) cut a length of old coolant hose and slit all down the length and use it to sheath the hose in question. A couple of cable ties or some insulation tape should hold it in place ok.
