Hi - My Landy does not have an aerial so I cannot listen to the radio. I wondered if a CB antenna would work as I really like these and think they look ace. I've tried to google it and from what I have picked up I think you can. Does anyone know for sure? hanks

there's a thread about it a few months ago, there was mixed feedback about it though..

do you want to use exclusively for the radio or use the same antenna for CB and radio?

In essence yes, it should work. but it probably wont be as good a reception as you'd get from a normal FM antenna.

Antennas are made to a specific length based on the signals they are intended to receive. The antenna length is determined by the wavelength of the signal, which is calculated from the signal's frequency. A normal whip antenna that you'd find on a car, is the optimum length to receive signals in the middle of the FM band. Obviously they also receive all the signals across the whole FM band very well, but the further you get away from that mid frequency, the worse the reception will be.

A CB whip antenna is optimised to receive on the CB frequencies in the same way. But this is a lower frequency that normal FM radio, so the antenna is much longer (because the wavelength is longer).

I would expect you'd hear something through a CB antenna, much better than no antenna at least. but not as good as one of the right length. So as MHM says, try it.

Agree with the guys

No reason why it shouldn't pick up a signal - a coathanger can so why not a CB aerial!

One real difference is a proper area 'grounds' whereas the CB uses an earth plane, which might account for the mixed reviews
