P38A Camper?

After a quick look I cant see if anyone has done anything like this before (probably a very good reason) but has anyone used a P38 as a base for a camper. I am not thinking full blown over lander style more a case of having a sleeping area in the back. When I fully fold up the seats the space is too short for me easist thing would be reomve the seats but as I will mainly using this at scout camp I may need to take them to camp so need the seats. I am thinking a shelf to the height of the seats half folded with under bed storage boxes underneath for my stuff then an air bed on top I like my comforts. Why not take a tent well we camp every month for one night as a challege, sometimes not arriving until 10pm then its get their tents up, quick game, supper and into bed then time for leaders to get tents up and bed this can be 12-1, then up, tents down and away home for 8am.

If anyone has done this sort of thing can they share some pics or anything I should be aware of I will be making this removable as it would be nice to have the full boot space other times.

To be fair I think that was a classic. P38 a bit short?

Easy, do the conversion, I remember a Classic with a lifting roof. As far a transporting Scouts, put them on a roof rack, it will be very character building.

Im 6' so can fit in but diagonally it's a bit uncomfortable hence wanting a wee bit more space.
Scouts on the roof might scratch the paint plus if one falls off and hits a cyclist I won't be able to pop the champagne as I'm driving lol

Get a body shop to fit a box to the bottom tailgate accessable from the inside. Stick your feet in and stretch out. Get the front seat passenger to open the champers. you are seeing problems not solutions.

Tow a camper trailer?

Or a float at a Gay Pride festival.

I use my P38 all the time and sleep in the back .
I fold the rear seats down and made a frame from plywood and made a flat surface in the back
I have made up boxes that fit under the bench and have used this vehicle now for five years going through Europe and Asia up to six months every year and dont pay any hotel bills as we both sleep in the Rangie and also use the tailgate for cooking.
I am over 6ft and find it quite comfortable but if its not long enough you can alwys fold the front seat forward and use as a pillow.

Have you got any pics this sounds like it shouldn't be too hard then .

Im in Russia at the moment staying at a hotel for 2 nights and the car is fully loaded so i wont have time to unload and take photos but I made a frame of ply and two sheets of 6mm ply for the platform .
I also made it so I could get at the spare wheel
I only fold the backs of the seat down and have the platform on them

Just man it out. It is only one night. Or if you really struggle that much. Tarp, rollmat, dossbag.
attach one end of tarp to vehicle. Other end to the ground. Sleep under tarp on rollmat. Takes about 30 seconds and that way you're not cheating in front of the Scouts. Lead by example.

I've got a Goretex bivvy bag and a Henessey Hammock. Neither have seen much use since the kid but they were very good.
