Evening all, the belt on my 4.6 has splits in it all the way round so I'm guessing it needs changing ASAP  I have no idea about the price of this and due to recent house move all I no is I can't afford a new engine! Any rough ideas on a price to change it?

not too bad is easier with fan off ,just draw a sketch of belt route unless youve a diagram ,use a 15mm spanner on center nut of tensioner pulley to release tension by pulling pulley back

dead simple...

(the timing/cam chain is under the front timing cover and is a metal chain and not a toothed belt...unless catastrophic failure happens, it will last pretty much forever although they do stretch and start rattling...)

It's not a chain it's a belt that's at the front of the engine just behind the fan. Has splits all round it on the inside of the belt

I know what you mean and yes the ancillary drive belt is a belt...

I just merely indicated that the Cam Chain is under the front timing cover - and that is a chain....as your first post mentioned the Cam belt - I just made it clearer that the cam belt is infact a chain and is under the timing cover and you obviously meant the ancillary drive belt......:D

Belt can be done with fan on but easier with fan off as already said. Take a piccie of belt before you remove so you know how it routes. My tip would be to fit it round the tensioner pulley first then as you pull the tensioner inwards (to the right) it's then easier to loop the belt over the alternator pulley.
