I recently replaced the gasket on my cam cover also by adding some RTV on the half moon area and found something strange while I checked the right positioning of the gasket at the back side of the engine. I have found that the half moon part does not line up with the bottom part of engine (it is parallel but the outer lip is about 1mm away from the block). See photo. (the black RTV below the half moon on the engine is done by the previus owner, I could not remove it, but removed from the mating surfaces.)
First I have slightly lifted the cover and tried to push it back but could not. Second time I let it as it is (with some RTV added) and no oil leak so far.
Should it be like that or something is wrong there?

Thanks for both of you! So no need to open it again just because of it....
But surely a strange design. If the outer lip does not touch the side of the engine what is the function of it...?

Tried it first time but not only the bottom part but the full half moon. If I force the bottom part only than it will be deformed (the upper part is fixed to the cam cover as it sits in a grove so can not move) and will not sit parallel, right? On the picture attached by Fery it also seems to be out and parallel.
I have added some RTV the second time and it does not leak now, so I will not open. If starts leaking again I will by a new gasket and will try.
My next job is the inlet manifold gasket as I still see some oil on the FPR which can not be from the cam cover now.

i would have slackened them all and repositioned cam cover in that case, it might work but isnt correct
