haha my 2002 td5 was only 6500 with snorkel, winch and bumper and loads of bits.Go on ebay and get bidding be patient the right landy will come around for u. Just drive a TD and you'll want a 200tdi trust me they are ****. At least a 200 has reasonable tuning properties (intercooler, pump, exhaust etc). Basically mate go on ebay put in your price and see what u can get. Watever you get will have rust because it will be 20 years old. Parts are cheap so go for it. Remember they are always a project and they are never finished. Let your heart decide mate. Plus if you want me to find one for you tell me where you live and wat exactly you want?

Cheers for all that mate, had some good help through here. I'm in Preston, Lancashire. I've been on eBay and had a look. There's a seller called janthelandyman, who is based in Bolton, Lancashire, which is only 20mins from me. He has quite a few up at the mo, so if you wouldn't mind having a look and telling me what you think it's be greatly appreciated..

Cheers again

I only paid £3500 for my 1999 TD5 110 csw.:D

i'm not saying mine was the best bargain in the world at all but it was 30mins from my house which was handy. All I meant was don't buy a landy because of what you think it is worth, buy it because you look at it and think thats wicked bad lol.

Sam go to that guy and have a look even if you don't buy it will help you decide what you want and u never know you might fall in love. Have a look in the back of LRO/LRM/LRE they all have buyers guides in the back one has defender for 2750 i'm sure i read it not long ago. If its got ticket then don't worry about a bit of rust you got 12 months to get it sorted!

My first landy was a 1983 110 V8, which lasted me about 9 years - I'm just replacing it with a 2001 110 TD5. The V8 was great, and when converted to LPG is not too expensive to run - 13/14 MPG at half the price of diesel gives an equivalent of 26/27 MPG for the price, which is comparable with a modern diesel. Allow around £800-1000 to convert a V8 to LPG. I am selling the V8 because at 27 years old, the chassis needs some work as do various other bits and pieces, especially the areas under the passenger seat/battery and by the drivers feet, so I would echo the other comments about making sure the chassis and bulkhead are in good condition - but don't write off getting an older V8 if the condition is right.

hi mate i got a 2.5 landy the other day for 2700

ive so far driven it a fair 100 or so miles and done some off road nonsens and its amazings
its a h reg ex mod 90 pick up with huge tyres and a 2 inch lift so no worries about ground clearence!

you wana make sure each landy is cold before you look, get em to pop the bonnet and have a good old look under the hood especially for leaks. mot times its just gaskets that need replacing but hopefully nothing too serious.
get A good shot at the engine side of the lower bulkhead and bonnet mounts, if its a clean tidy engine your on to a winner.

also check the whole of the underneath all xmember corners and door sills for corrosion

i was very lucky to have found mine as there is not a single spot of rust but when you do get it get under it for some maintenence and wax oiling

most importantly no clunking in and out of gear especially under the load of drive. knocking and clunking whilst in drive can mean either someones driven off with it in diff lock and wound your transmission box up and its ****ed for the price of an expensive gearbox otherwise could be clutch problems

ask if oil levels have ever been overfilled, check diff works low and high etc

and make sure you see it in the day! take it off work otherwise you could be fooled into buying a heap of ****e that you'll end up spending your youth repairing!!

i paid £950 for my 86 200TDI with big tyres, wellers, recovery points, etc etc. they are out there...
been a fair bit of work to keep it on the road mind, but its getting there and does about 40 miles a day
