Get a copy of LRM. They usually quote prices for the various LR range of cars.
I'll certainly sell you my '55' plate FL 1 (Adventurer) for about £7,750 or very nearest offer. However, it will be sold as seen. There is no finer specimen to be had. Recently serviced (yesterday), new fuel tank cradle, Polybushes throughout (yes Joe_90), an immaculate example! It also has the added and much sought after designer 'Elbow Rest' and some rear steps attached to an exclusive tow bar to allow for the easier cleaning of the back bit of the roof. Many other extras to boot. Your misses shall be delighted.

£8k will get yer an early or high mileage Freelander 2. £8k will buy nearly any Freelander 1 as most have dropped below this. Freelander 2 is betterer than the Freelander 1 in every way. It's a completely different vehicle. FL2 started in 2006 when the FL1 stopped. If using them for towing yer betterer to get an auto.

Thanks hippo.
That's help full to know .
Yes will defiantly be used for towing and I was also thinking along the lines of an auto, out of interest does the auto box sharer any similarities of the newer discovery in that it is a sealed for life box and an oil change is a major job ...

Most so called "sealed for life" boxes are perfectly possible to service. The manufacturers say that kind of thing to keep 3 year service costs down. The less that needs doing in the first 3 years, the cheaper initial ownership appears.

I can't see why the box fluid can't be changed in any box. Not changing it will definitely shorten the boxes life. This lack of fresh fluid will actually be the most likely cause of box failure.

Auto fluid change can be done on both the Freelander 1 and Freelander 2. Slightly different method and different oil, but OK for a diy'er to do if they follow the procedure correctly.

I think the sealed for life bit is to make peeps think they never have to worry about maintaining the auto. They still put a fluid change on the service schedule. Filters are hidden inside and don't need changed. As nodge said there's the cost factor pressure of comparison between vehicles. Perticulaly thems who do a high mileage who look at this as cost of ownership if doing 20k miles a year or higher makes the difference between cars. Yer can hit the more eggspensive services sooner and some peeps are not brand loyal.

Freelander's are built to last. ;)
