Dont venture into the gaylander section much but me old man is looking at trading his xtrail for a fl2 to tow his caravan. His looking at 57-58 ish age dezuls.Any tips?

Go for it. Just changed my FL1 TD4 for a FL2 TD4 (57 Plate). What a tow car. Just towed down to Cornwall and back home (Cleveleys, Lancashire) and found it to be a fantastic towcar. Cornish hills, what hills.
Just be aware of the price (I found some LR Agents are asking silly money for high mileage models) and the cost of the towbar fitting (car ECU has to be coded at LR Agent befor anything will work).
Regards,
Chris

BUMP. Any more tips or some alternitives? Not xtrails though, there cack and thats what hes getting rid of.

From previous posting -
35,000 miles in 15 months on an 08 plate auto.
Never missed a beat - touch wood.
Two services, dealer changed the aircon pump clutch at the first service as they said it was noisy.
Needs new tyres.
Tows caravan like it wasn't there, then again 160 bhp out of the box.
Rubbish fuel economy if you use all the horse power :) :)

Door bottoms don't fall off but will get knocked off if you open doors in a trench!

More importantly some early ones had weld spatter in steering rack, if effected and it comes loose means new rack, pump, and reservoir - dealers have Tech bulletin.
A few manuals have had clutch failure which can be expensive as it is a dual mass flywheel, so if you're buying for towing go for super smooth auto.
When it comes to reliability it is in a completely different league to the FL1.
Check all the electrics, the HSE has lots and not all the dealers are capable of fixing them - then again some of the dealers are downright incompetant. eg reversing sensors.

Very expensive to buy, nothing in the way of discounts, high residuals as there is a waiting list. Lets be serious you can buy a D3 for less than a 2 year old FL2.

Same old problem of ground clearance as FL1. Mantec do under body protection, but no snorkel available. Terrain response is good esp. in snow, makes an average driver look good. Limited availability of genuine AT tyres for larger wheel sizes, then again not many people with 19" rims will be going off-road.

Contact finance company as long as they're happy to be paid off & paperwork is legit. then it int a problem. But use ya credit card that way you can get dish back if owt goes wrong. and don't pay her until you've had authorisation and paperwork of finance company confirming that the debt to them has been settled in full then pay her what ever is left. using credit card again.

Don't do it. Deal with the finance co direct...she'll trouser the 1500 and the motor will still be 'owned' by the finance co.
theres 11k outstanding and the ebay bids are currently at 12500.so she could do a runner with the lot and wed get the car repo'ed

Sure i'll be corrected if wrong as i've been out of uk a good while but..

As i understand it, she's not allowed to sell the car without the permission of the finance co, if she sells it, you risk it being repo'ed to cover their loss if she doesn't pay the outstanding finance.

By all means bid on it...but do not pay her, pay the finance co..for all you know there could be 15k outstanding...

Back to the original question, not much to add to what's been said, but bear in mind that prices vary hugely depending on the spec. The basic model comes without cruise control, even on the auto, and doesn't have terrain response. The top-end ones have leather everywhere and heated everything! Try to get one with a spare wheel - most only have a silly re-inflator pump. When I bought mine a year ago, from Marshalls in Bedford, they had a couple at much lower price than other dealers, one of which i bought. Have had no problems so far. I suspect the lower price was because they had not supplied or serviced it themselves. It's a lovely car to drive!

Hi all, i sell finance for cars and vans, but am new to this forum so here goes, the info and what you need to do is below for you:

First request the finance company and contact number, - that kind of lend will be some one like blackhorse, close motor vehicle finance ect,

second ring finance company or who you are buy it off for settelment figure in wrighting, they can email, fax or post you this - however they will need reg of car and if poss agreement number.

third you settle the finance and pay the seller the diffrence this way you know finance is settled,

as long as you do that you will be safe.

as for storms post, NO 1 is allowed to sell a vehicle with finance on it as it is ilegal to do so, any vehicle with outstanding finance on it Must be setteled first usless you want to take over the finance in which case you must novate the contract which you must past the credit check with that finance company.

hope this helps p if not let me know.

Andy

its finaced by blackhorse.honed them today and they sed walk away. Its finnishing in 3 hours and is currenlty at 12700.The bird who is "selling" it reckons we can pay her and shed pay off the finace.Werent born yesterday. Legal advice has sed leave it be too.A small car dealer has a nice se up the road for decent money and hes offering a fair price on trade in so its looking like the one to go for.
