Hi All,

Just joined up, seems to be a lot of great info on here for when the P38 I'm looking to buy at the moment inevitably goes wrong. Not to be detered, I have the following question:

Looking at 2 P38's at the weekend. Both diesel. One 1995, the other 2000. Are there any great differences other than obvious cosmetic tweaks? Newer one has 150k on it, older one 100k. Similar spec wise.

Opinions welcome,

Cheers,

Rob

Go for the 2000 model - don't ask me to list the differences but there are some from the 1999 model year onwards, that make them a little better than the earlier ones....

When I was searching for mine I looked at reports on here, and one always sticks in my head:

Post 1: Is the Diesel P38 really as slow as I have heard they are?
Post 2: No, they're slower....

They are plenty good enough for what it is designed to do, but I have to say coming from V8 Rangies in the past, the sluggishness did surprise me - but give it a poke on the load pedal and she will leap up and take off....

Over the moon with mine, as you will be with yours.....you will tear your hair out at times, but you will never be without it.....go for the 2000 model....

Unfortunately the Petrol models attract almost a grand extra on road tax here in Ireland, on top of petrol being more expencive than diesel, ever before I can claim the VAT back, so it's diesel or nothing!

Performance wise, have heard good things about chipping, planning on putting a few quid aside from the kitty for that. If I need a blast I've always got the bike to play with :)

Saw this thread:
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/differences-between-various-range-rover-models-57175.html ....was really looking to find out if the older model is more prone to have a strop and fall apart.

Yep, post 99MY are better, should not have RF receiver problems for a start, FOB sync is easier and losts of other little changes. Budget for changing the airsprings if they haven't been done.

Cheers all, will try bear all advice in mind. Fingers crossed for a good 'un.

Tried to post a reply earlier but it seems not to have made it passed moderation...?! I didn't even swear... much...!

I've got a 2001 one that had the RF issue

I read some where the rf receiver was not updated till 2002 ( after p38 stopped being made ) could of been on rangerovers.net but not sure on the actual truth, Il see if I can find it
