Hi I'm Rob and i currently have a landrover discovery TD5 and am looking at buying a series 2a from fleabay! Its a 1970 series 2a looks in very good condition (been rebuilt) with just a couple of jobs needed - door tops, seats and windscreen washer. Now for my questions -
is it worth £1000 in your opinions
the advert says its currently classed as PLG and it needs to be changed to get free road tax - how easy is this??

Thanks for your help guys / girls and here is hoping this is my first question of many!!!

dunno never seen the motor :D :D

dump irons ?

think if it was me i'd be looking out for an orginal one - not one that's been cobbled together using newer parts.

to be fair it doesnt look bad, but you can't see the quality of welds from a small picture, nor can you see the standard of workmanship in general

look for an unrestored one

If you're gonna buy of evilBay, GO AND LOOK AT THE CAR FIRST COS IT MIGHT BE ****ED AFTER YOUVE PAID.

That is all. :D
I've bought loads of motors off ebay. NEVER pay up front. not even a deposit. Pay in cash when you collect it and only after you've satisfied yourself that it's as described. Ask lots of questions before you bid if the description is a bit vague.

this is what dvla say-

Date of Liability 26 04 1992 Date of First Registration 26 06 1970 Year of Manufacture Not Available Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2286CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour MAROON Vehicle Type Approval null The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry.

Cheers for the advise lads. I managed to get the seller to send me pics of the chassis - Looked like good qualtiy welding. The photo also showed the quality of the painting - very poor drips all down the sides! I now everyone paints them by hand but ffs wipe the drips with a bloody brush!!Anyway i am still looking and have set a limit of £1000 for a series 2 / 2a. Must also be prior to 1973 as i cant justify spending road tax on two vehicles to her indoors! So if anyone has a half descent one for sale let me know.

If it's so close to finishing, why is he selling it now?
Again the faults he is listing seem fairly minor, so why not fix them before selling? Or are they not so minor, in which case it definitely isn't worth £1000
Why hasn't he applied for tax free status?
Too many unanswered questions for me. Be very very careful.

last one looks ya best bet but it will need new door tops but there cheap second one is not very original and the chec dash looks shocking the red is ya last problem

Cheers for our advice lads. In your opinion what would you say the last one is worth?? The owner says he wants more than £1000 but how much more would you go??
