buying a discovery

i am selling my car after xmas and i am thinking of getting a 1995 ish discovery. is there anything to look out for when i am looking at them? i dont know anything about them at all. which model should i go for any suggestion would be much appreciated.

i had noticed rust on arches and doors etc in pictures i have been looking at. is all this common on discos is there any other bad points?

Tell us where you live and bribe one of us to go with you when you're buying. (Not me, I'm crap at buying cars). Try chatting up nice young lady discovery drivers and ask one of THEM to go with you. Never know your luck.

check service history & evidence of regular maintenance,/how many replaced parts...

Make sure the floor doesn't look like this http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/attachments/f8/3817d1194540788-rusty-boot-floor-image0009.jpg Mine had 12mths MOT when I brought it and that photo was taken 2 weeks after I brought it. The rear crossmember was in a worse condition(which is an MOT fail) As was the drivers side sill.

Also have a look underneath for any off-road damage. A tow-bar may mean it's had a harder life than a Chelsea Tractor.
