You could get a very tidy 300tdi for less than 2 grand. Go for the latest model with a reasonable mileage and a good service history!

:focus:

I would say... If you're wanting cheap (fairly) reliable introduction to Land Rovering then go for a Disco. But be prepared for some rust and getting your hands dirty. And having to wade through banter on here to get some really useful advice.

And if you're going to be doing much mileage and want to be able to get through puddles get a doosel. I get over 30 mpg outa mine.

For two grand you should be able to get either a really nice, straight 300TDi or one with some off-roady bits on it already. Although if it's got the bits on it it's pro'ly been abused.

I think the reliability issues are more down to poor servicing etc, because i'e had a V8 range rover, a TD5 and now a 300tdi. Not one of these gave me any real problems. The range rover was totally reliable the whole time, the TD5 had rear airbags and a rocker cover gasket and the 300 tdi has been faultless, even in this winter, starts no problem and makes driving in this weather easy. As long as you get one that has been cared for, you'll be fine!!

Get a 300Tdi get a helf decent set of tyres and it'll go anywhere. Part's are cheap as chips their easy to work on and not to bad on fuel

4th Discofisrt was1995 v8 then a 1991 2ootdi then a 2001 td5 now drive a 300tdi

Its now got Insa Sahara Turbo Tyres has had EGR Valve removed and blanked have de-cat'd the exhaust had fuel pump turned up a bit.
I want next snorkel, winch & winch bumper and a light bar...

Actually, if you've got two grand to spend. Spend a grand on a fairly decent and well looked after 300TDi and then the other grand on some off-roady bits for it!
